Can we save it!

well heres the downlow
two weeks ago someone stole my gas cap....yes you read correctly.
now being cheap i put some serran wrap on the hole and winged it only to find out a week later, after days of heavy rain, that my car wont start.
the starter goes on forever. took out the fuel line and put it in a bottle to see if there is any gas flow there isnt. so i look at where the seran wrap is and its not there anymore and the rim of the filler neck is wet.....with water i havent had the time to take the fuel pump out but i assume is rusted to hell if this is the end result is there any saving it and if not is there anywhere i can buy the pump alone and not the whole set up
ie. mazdatrix $299.00 :[ ] what??

i know hot to do the whole install but i just dont trust these autopartswarehouse.com ect., and i really want a new one which are scarse if not non existant in puerto rico...trust me ive looked...
p.s i never found out where my ecu is. i need to switch it for a resolderd one.
thanks

Is the car stock? Could it have a stand alone hiding somewhere?

..FC RX7???Ok.the ECU is located under the passenger side Carpet,.you have to remove the Door Scuff panel, the Side Kick panel and pull the rubber door trim off a touch,at the area around the Hinges and the Bottom corner.
Put the seat all the way back and pull the carpet from Up under the dash,The Ecu is behind a Protective plate on the slanted part of the floor.
NOW,the Fuel Pump, assuming it is an FC we are taling about.
Undo the Spare tire HInges( the plastic Tab things riht above the little vents that are Built IN to the carpetting in the Rear).
pull the capet UP.
pull the black rubberized mat on the rear Hatch floor Off and Out.
you should see a Silver Plate on the Driver's Rear of the car with 4 Phillips head screws(star shaped heads!)
undo those screws and it allows you to access the top of the Fuel Tank.
The Pump and sender assembly is held on the tank by 8 Phillips Screws which can be Tough to get off.you have to also Undo the Feed and Return line and disconnect the Fuel Power Conmnector too,in order to get the Sender/Pump assembly out(Disconnect Battery when working on Electrical!)
.If you do not know this, there is a 14mm nut on teh Passenger side of the gas tank at the Bottom, and it is a DRAIN plug.you should be able to Drain Fuel from there.
Honestly I wuld just drain the Fuel<flush with GOOD gas and drain, then Use the Pump to Pump Fuel to the Engine(where you would have disconnected the LINE IN to the engne) let the pump Clear the bad fuel OUT,.
Replace teh Fuel Filter as it is now Contaminated with water.
OH<>.and Get a Freakin Gas Cap!
Good luck,.STYX.

i know all this i just figured out the ecu i always thought it was under the dash . ive taken out my fuel pump plenty of times but htanks for the step by step, yes i drained it out already but rather than use the plug i dropped the tank to clean out the rust on the inside.
yes unfourtunately i did buy the gas cap a bit late ( one week i kinda had to wait to get paid you know getting paid minimum wage and what not). well my pump is rusted to hell on the outside i cleaned it up and it looks to be only surface rust . i'm gonna try to bench test it, but if the test fails i need to know where i can buy the pump alone not the whole pump with brackets and fuel level. thanks for all the imput guys i really want to get the fc back on the road i finally got all the mechanical issues buffed out and i do something stupid like this.

Did you replace the low-pressure fuel filter, the "sock"? White plastic square screen box, at bottom of fuel pump.
I replaced mine, it was clogged, but did not look like it. Job #1 when in with the fuel pump.

If it is the original pump you should just replace it with a Walbro so you know that it works perfect.

A walbro is absolute overkill if its a n/a. You will be feeding it way to much fuel. Just get a stock one from the parts section of this forum.

You should test the fuel pressure if you got the pump working. Tee into the fuel line with a fuel pressure gauge. If you need a new pump then place a want to buy ad in the parts section of this forum. I bet you can get a good condition stock n/a pump for like $25 shipped.
