Question can the overflow tank it self cause problems???

i have this coolant problem and have had one for some time now.....when i look closer when ever i turn off the engine, thats when it starts to come out.

Q is that normal?

also i notice that when it comes out the overflow hose there is also leaking around the lid to the over flow bottle.

Q could a leaky over flow tank lid cause vacuum to the coolant system problems?

Nope...You probably have a leaking hose. Unless, of course, the cap of the overflow is actually cracked.

are you sure the lines aren't connected backwards on the overflow bottle cap? If you do then it all the coolant will drain out of the bottle

I accidentally did that once when I took it off to clean it up

you might need a new radiator cap. Have you replaced yours, or is it stock.

its stock.... everything seems fine except

1-the rad itself
2-the bottom rad cap
3-something with the overflow tank

-the engine pumps coolent out or pressurizes AFTER being run. seems odd. I was under the impression that it should suck it bback in because the 14psi that the system has drops, and then causes a vacuum to suck coolant back into the system

-no smoke start up
-easy start up
-even compression in both housings, the comression is also ok. around 100 in both housings
-new silicon rad-to-overflow tank hose
-reclamped the rear hose beneith UIM with screw clamps.
- and its not leaking anywear else but the overflow tank

so what i did was(i dont recomend this) was, after running the car i listen to the lower RAD cap and i heard weesing(leaking) so i opened it up just enough to get air in(or out) to bleed it. It starts shootin out the overflow tank.

so my theory is that just BARELY enough air is getting through the lower rad cap to cause this after running the engine. what does everyone think?

do you think that the upper RAD cap could also effect this issue of the overflow tank?

It can. It would be from hot soak. shutting a car off at operating temperature will obviously stop the water pump from turning. The hot coolant is just sitting there soaking up all of the heat.
