Can i use the Stock temp guage like this..?

well i put a new sensor and redid the engine harness with all new wiring and made sure that everything was right. Well my temp gauge doesn't work still so i think it grounding out somewhere under the dash but i wanna make sure its not the gauge. Is it possible that i can pull the gauge from the cluster and hook a direct wire from the gauge to sender??
