yes you can take them off but your aux. ports won't activate and will lose about 20hp. you could wire the ports open for a cheap fix but you lose bottom end so if you don't mind less bottom end you can wire the ports open.

You could take it off, and replace it with a presilencer from Racing Beat to keep the zux ports activating.

i thought you gain horsepower by gutting your cat because you get better flow?

Well in this situation I would just remove cats if you have to. For better quick performance you can hollow the cats. But from hearing flatlander I dont know if its true but the aux ports wont open so you have to use something in replace of that. Something like a header or downpipe to a presilencer. But like I said the whole aux ports I dunno about but yes you can drive with the cats off althought if you get pulled over because its to loud and believe me its loud it will be a nice fine. Anyways hope that helps. Hollowing cats is ez just get a pipe that will fit through the cat and just use a hammer to knock out the crap inside.

yeah you gain hp from the increased exhaust flow, but on the S4 the auxillary ports are activated by the cat, without it, they won't open unless you wire them open or run them off your air pump. do a search, theres a bunch of threads on how to do this.

Yea dubrc is right. The only thing that woul d cause you to loose HP is having the aux ports shut. Wire them open and you will be fine and faster!

Wrong. If you wire the aux ports open you will lose the little low end power NA FC's have already. Why not just do it properly and keep the low end and the high end. Check the archives for some alternative ways to activate the ports instead of wiring them open.
