can i swap this engine without any trouble?

can i put an 86 n/a in my 88 gtu without any trouble even if i have to use my ecu and tranny

not sure but i think it would have to have all the same options like power windows and aas and such for the harness to plug to the engine but they should bolt up easily also you have to be sure you go from manual to manual or auto to auto for the computer to work and i don't think an auto engine will bolt directly to a manual

No problem.&nbsp ECU is basically the same.&nbsp The only "minor" problem is the fuel injectors.&nbsp If you use your 1988 ECU, harness, and fuel injectors, everything else should work fine.&nbsp Just swap the engine block itself.

so just take fuel system and ecu off my 88 and put it on the 86 before i put it in. okay, is there any housepower loss by putting this motor in?

No difference - the engine blocks are identical in all respects.

The fuel injectors "problem" is that your 1988 model uses high-impedence fuel injectors.&nbsp The 1986 engine uses low-impedence fuel injectors, and there's a fuel injector resistor block in the harness.&nbsp To make things simple, just swap over your 1988 fuel injector system, and all is good!

the reason i ask is it is cheaper for me to buy this engine than it is to rebuild my old engine. i recently found oil in the coolant along with other problems ive had with it since i bought it. i think the apex seals are blown. the engine im buying has a tranny with it, but i might have to use my tranny.

If you just use both of the harnesses currently in your car you won't have a problem. I'd just swap the blocks and put all of your fuel injection, wiring, and accessories on the replacement. If the engine comes with a harness and you thought you could use it, check for differences in the wiring harnesses on each engine. If you've ever looked at the different available harnesses, there are more than a couple, and its not only related to power windows, aas, etc. On my 87 turbo II the wiring that went to the alternator was on the driver's side harness, and on my 88 Vert it was on the damn passenger harness. It was a crazy surprise that came up during the Turbo II Convert Conversion.
