can i remove my air pump?

Just wondering if there is any advantage to removing the air pump and what would be involved

Hi
Advantage :
When you remove the air pump, you can get more power.
Because it has mechanical loss like air conditioner compressor.

Disadvantage :

If you want to remove your air pump, the stock cataliser
must be removed.
You may get a ticket, especially CA is very strict I hear.

removing the air pump can give you a un clutterd look from the engine bay. less work for the motor to rotate.. ... do this only if you do not want to pass im.. if there no restrictions in your state then yank that thing off. and your acv( air control valve) abd replac it with a block off plate.. its use less.. also replace or gut your cats.. good for more horses....hope this helps

That's a bit misleading. The air pump and the A/C compressor (when off) draw very little power. You only gain a tiny amount of power removing the airpump.

Have a read of my post on this thread.

Make sure your water pump belt doesnt slip when you pop off the airpump. This si the only reason why I still have my air pump

Just get a double sleeve alternater pulley and run two belts to the alternator, no power loss, but you get twice the contact area on the water pump, therefore less slipping.
