Can I build a cheap turbo system for my NA s5?

I got a new s5, recent rebilt engine. i wanna bypass the whole intake/header/exhaust thing and go for something that really produces power. anyone know if i can put together a reliable custom turbo setup for under a grand? i want to use a TII intercooler and maybe a turbo off some 89 or 90's factory vehicle. totalbudget is under a grand. im not looking for massive gains, maybe something like 200hp so i don't need to go crazy with stuff prolly swap in TII injectors and Safc i have on my other fc for fueling.

i ran a search and i saw people converting na to turbo but what im looking for really is a budget buildup. i want to use used parts from a junkyard or somewhere to get this done under a grand...

yeah and i have a tii hood that i can swap off my old na fc.

Well the n/a engine is high comp, which means the turbos are going to spool hella fast and cause you problems if you don't know how to handle it.

Your search wasn't very inclusive?

And s5 is even higher comp!

Best "budget build" for turbo'd n/a I've seen is sonicrats.

If u want a motor to blow up use the n/a motor. Ur better off buying a entire TII drivetrain and swaping it in.

yeah i forgot, he will have to beef up that n/a driveline. At the very least a aftermarket clutch that will keep from slipping, thats $300 right there.

DIE n00b! Misinformation sucks ***!

Yes, it can be done. A lot will have to be fabbed yourself. And it also depends on the deal you get on picking things up.

Drill & tap the oil pedistal for the oil feed (1/8npt)
Drill tap front cover/replace with tII front cover for oil return
RB Flanges & custom spacer (or you can pickup a TII intake setup and just port the **** out of the tII LIM to fit the 6port block), then no spacer is needed.
550 injectors
Walbro 190fp (or tII pump if you're not aiming high)
stock intercooler, either front mount it with the N/a manifolds, or go with the tII manifolds and stock mount it.
TII ECU/AFM/pressure sensor
Custom exhaust downpipe/etc (or buy a prefabbed if you use tII manifolds)
BOV
That should about do it, more than 5psi will eat your clutch alive, so I suggest porting the wastegate and just running it straight to the turbo's outlet as to keep the boost down.

lol, anything over 5psi pretty much slips the stock clutch, so you were kind of right. Mine held up at 5psi, though it could've been slipping slightly, at 7psi i couldn't even accelerate in 2nd gear...

i was gonna ask.. how much boost can you safely pull off of an na motor? lets just pretend i have 3mm seals. higher compression is always better, and i know a rotary can handle the power output, but lets pretend a low boost system, just to give it some extra kick.

Uhm, I'm running 14psi on a s5 turbo on my stock 6-port n/a block. That's going to change to about 17psi when I bolt on this BNR Stage 3, muhahaha!

I can hear the engine screaming in agony already, oh the joys of instant boost that will send my driveshaft flying through the floor!

If u got the cash go ahead. But I'm pretty sure it would be cheaper and easier to swap the TII stuff over. I've done it. It was easy. And inexpensive....maybe 2500. I just bought a wrecked TII took it all out rebuilt it and put it in my GXL. GXL's body was pristine.

I think it looks better if you run a aftermarket intercooler down to the grill and loose the turbo hood might save some money to or at least the same price
