Driven to shark bay and back, that was about 2000km. cruising at 110-120
No problems except my sunroof got stuck and got a bit sunburnt :P

no different to any other car in good condition, nice to over take 110m long road trains with no hassles

It all depends on the condition of the car. Tune-up (plugs, wires, oil, etc) before you go and you should be fine.

It's like any other automobile on the road...
If the car is maintained and driven safely, there is no need to worry.

from my experiences it really depends on the weather. Check your oil cooler and radiator fins. straighten them out and make sure they are clean and not caked in dirt and oil. make sure the stock clutch fan has a shroud and the bottom scrape plate are in place. I use duct tape and foam to make sure they get the most air flowing through them as possible.

fresh tune up is a must. make sure your belts are in good shape and their play is in spec. look for cracks in the water hoses and oil cooler lines are not leaking. if all is good you'll make it across the country.

if I were to drive such a journey I would have spare hoses, clamps, water, and oil stored in the bins.

change your transmission and differential fluid, because who knows the last time they've been replaced. check your brake fluid and make sure it's clean free of air bubbles.

If all checks out your car will be pretty much all round dependable.

If the car is running well, then no problem.

I find it amazing people ask this...I mean, it's not like Mazda specifies in the manual "to be used for short trips only".

As is the same with EVERY CAR, if it is in good shape mechanically and well maintained there will be no issues.

Agreed with what Aaron said. Is their somewhere online that says "rotarys cant make long trips".

If you've been driving your car around for the past few months and it hasn't had any issues, why would it on a trip?

Just make sure to do a tune up before you go and enjoy your trip.

seriously its not like the things are a ticking time bomb or somthing. they run and operate just like any car is suppose to , except they are unique and the only time they show there nasty side is when there not maintained, just like any other car would do.

Hell, steady-state highway driving is less stressful on a car than stop and go city driving anyway.

I driven my TII with no a/c from San francisco to LA wich is about 400 miles drive. It was hot, around 90-100degree. I made there and back and then back so around 1200miles. cruising around 75-80mph. Make sure do a full tune up, and make sure the car is in good shape before doing it.

i have driven several rx7s on long trips and have decided that they are the best cars for the longer trips you can just drive all day and night the car dose not ever seem to need to stop for anything. and dose not like to ether.
