Camden Supercharger on 13B N/A
I am considering adding a 7" camden Supercharger to my 13b. The car will be street driven. I would like to hear from those of you running one of these superchargers. Any problems with them?

I do love their FAQ and their $4k TII swap price-list. They say a long block is $1000, then list an exhaust manifold and a turbo and intercooler seperately... I guess long block means short block huh? Oh well, way overpriced for what little it gives you. You could buy a tII for about that much!

I am considering the 7" Na supercharger not the EFI. I am considering this because I do not think the TII will fit well on my car withot a lot more work. I am installing this on a Karmann Ghia (VW)

from that picture, it looks like you would even be able to cut/weld in a water/air precooler.

All I can says is the Camden is an awesome product. I was running one on my street car and truly loved the sound and definately the power! I just recently sold the Camden to go NA with N20, to which I will probably make more power that way. The sole reason I chose to ditch the blower, after years wanting one and then finally having one, was the heat issue. Living in south Alabama, and you in FL, then you know our weather. The 13B would heat up rapidly, and it would take evrything that I could do to keep the thing cool. I spared no expense when I built this car. New everything! Every part of the cooling system was new, coolant additives, oil additives so that the oil would run cooler, dual 1800 rpm fans, and I would struggle to keep the 13B in the 190-200 degree mark. A watchful eye was a key player also. Spent as much time, it seemed, watching the temp guage as I did actually driving. The mounting/dismounting was a little bit of a pain too. Plus, specific pulleys, belts, water pump housings, brackets, hoses, etc...have to be used in conjunction with the Camden. Something they don't tell you when you buy the setup. Your fuel system has to be upgraded accordingly to be able to supply sufficient fuel to make sure you don't run lean with the blower. Ignition needs to be increased also. Of course, all of this (fuel, ignition, cooling...) is everything that anyone should do when upgrading like that (ie. Camden). I really did enjoy mine but the heat was more bothersome to me than anything. I would rather have something a little more maintenance free. Overall, I have somewhere of about $1700-1800 in just the cooling, fuel, and ignition systems, and all the extras that I used with the Camden. You don't necessarily have to go to the extent that I did but all of those things need consideration with the blower. I hope this helps!

What are your feelings about the new Camden EFI kit? Should take care of some of the aforementioned problems? They seem to claim it's "bolt on" but I agree with you fuel pump upgrade and maybe larger injectors. Just a thought

I have the radiator and lines in already. I bought a Setrap oil cooler with dual fans. A little expensive, but it is suppoused to be very effective.
I will post some pictures as the work progresses. I am hoping to pick-up the engine this Friday and do part of the installation over the labor day weekend.

why spend that kind of cash for such a small gain?
And to the guy that ditched the charger for nitrous, keep in mind that nitrous is very limited in use--you cannot use it all the time. so most of the time you will have the same slow NA, and then you hit the button....IMHO, the blower was a better way to go. Just my two cents FWIW and good luck with the n2o.
but the Camden kit only provides a small gain...I am sure it is noticeable, but if I were to go through all of that on a non-turbo, I would look for an option that gave me my money's worth.....

That small power gain everyone keeps talking about is using stock injectors and an ecu programmed to run the same as if there was no supercharger, but suppose you used 550 injectors and a stand alone?

Granted that'd be a little more money, but the tradeoff for spending that 450-500 bucks more for a standalone and bigger injectors would be awesome low end torque--as opposed to a turbo--and and a nice wide powerband that's more linear for those who are looking for that kind of thing.
Oh and that 450-500 estimate is without tuning or anything of the sort. just for clarification.

putting it down daily
Not an expert myself, but a reputable rotor motor mechanic around here (Scott @ Mazsport) tells me the 5" blower is the better way to go- much more reliable.
