Well, the time is nearing to replace the clutch. I have very little pedal left, and anyone other than myself, can drive the car. I want to get something better than stock, but it needs to last. I am a clutch abuser, and I mean this seriously. Therefore, I am impressed with the stock clutch. However, I would like something litttle stronger. My budget is 300.

What I have considered:

Exedy stage 1
ACT ss(a little more expensive, but if its worth it, I can wait anyother pay check)
Looked at all the ebay clutches, buy I dont think I want to waste money on that.

So far I found the exedy for 255
the ACT for 320

IS there another clutch I have overlooked?
Who has used this clutches?
And is there any place to get them cheaper?(Hey I go too college, every penny counts)

Also, I saw a Stainless Steel braided clutch line on ebay for 30 bucks, will I notice a diffrence with this?

ACT doesn't make clutches for any N/A engines. Only for the TII, don't believe me call ACT yourself. Go with the Exedy setup & Centerforce makes clutches for our car(currently using one).

 

i have a Centerforce in my NA. previous owner installed it, so i dont know what it cost, but i think it was under $300

i bought an ACT HD pressure plate with performance organic street disc for my 86
i bought mine from http://www.prostreetonline.com with their discount code. cheapest place i could find at the time i bought it, though i had it picked up instead of shipped. shouldn't be that much though.

Yea. Hmmmmm, thats wierd because when my flywheel cracked I decided to get a Prolite flywheel(9.8lbs.) & 6-puck clutch from ACT. It took us almost 6hrs. to figure out that the flywheel & clutch was too big for the tranny. So I just decided to order another one & when I called to ACT & very specifically asked for the flywheel/clutch setup for an 1987 Rx7 Gxl. The operator told me that they didnt make them for GXL but they had them for TII & when she read me the product code for for the TII flywheel/clutch setup it matched with the one I had. So 5 months passed & I welded my flywheel together, used my old Centerforce clutch, & sold my ACT setup to another forum member that goes by the name of Truceb for 300$.

But if you say you have an ACT clutch in your N/A, then I must be a liar or I just got a fucked up operator.

 

sounds like you got an operator that didn't know what he/she was talking about.

 

The problem is that I ordered two of the same flywheel/clutch setup. The first one from e-bay & the second one from a performance shop. I still have the 2nd set just in case the N/A turbo ever blows up on me.

 

Would anyone say that there is a reason to shell out the extra cash for the ACT over the exedy?

 

I was using a clutchnet 6puck w/ an extreme HD pp which held around 400hp on an n/a flywheel, think it was about $330 or so. Should be good for damn near any N/a!

 

The problem is ACT doesn't make an N/A 6puck, only 4puck. Both unsprung

I also have an ACT clutch in my N/A, not a 6 puck but the strip/stip one. That operator is a moron. BTW I love my clutch, in fact I have the another new disk for sale, but you will need to find a preasure plate...

I'd say exactly the opposite. Been running an ACT clutch in my 90 GXL for years, and recently replaced it with an Exedy, and am liking the exedy engagement a LOT more. The ACT clutch wasn't bad, but I'm feeling more control over when the gears engage without any loss of quickness. Convinced me to put an exedy in the Subaru, and am enjoying it there as well.

I also had an ACT heavy duty pressure plate with the street/strip disk on my vert (back when it was N/A). I loved the feel and it never slipped, so I would recommend it to anyone. I can't comment on how long it lasts because I sold the clutch along with my N/A engine.

 

clutch masters makes one so does act but i just put an exedy stage 2 in last week it grabs about 300% harder than the clutch masters did and it was like 150$ cheaper took all of about 4 hours out of my day to put it in

exedy is one of the biggest clutch manufacturers in japan i figure if its one of the best where the car came from its gotta be good enough for my car in my little town

 

centerforce DF clutch is what i use , 300 passes at the strip and it is still holding up
