calling all electrical gurus
Well my 'new' car left me stranded today. (something my fb never did) I drove it about 100 miles to my parents, then left to go home and went about 20 miles, stopped for gas, and when I restarted it, it idled ok but when I put it into gear, automatic by the way. It died. The headlights and the door chime and dome lights are the only thing that has power. No idiot lights no stereo and most important no start. It is still sitting at the gas station 80 miles away. Any ideas?

ok, what would make it blow? I know, that is a wide open question. And I take it that is either the 80 or 100 amp fuse under the hood. Also do FC's not have fusible links?

sorry, not the fuse. My nephew found the problem in the daylight, a connection was melted. Spliced in new wire, car runs. Now the question is what made it melt!

This is a common problem that should be in the FAQ. There is ONE black wire that goes from the engine fuse box to the ignition switch. If it pulls apart/breaks, your left with no start/no idiot lights BUT the headlights work.
Basically anything the ignition switch feeds goes **** up. But anything not fed by the ignition switch works.
About six to eight inches below the engine fuse bos is a sinle wire connector. BLACK WIRE. It feeds the ignition switch. Commonly pulled apart by accident when the engine is removed or the a/c is being played with.
