is being all sweatty more annoying than the extra acceleration associated with that 25# of weight you've got off the car is fun?
It's your call man.

Really there are only 2 reasons you should take the A/C off.
1. You are building a race only track car so it doesn't matter anyways
2. You need to save room under the hood

I can tell the difference when I have a passenger in the car. Thats ~130(my gf) so if I remove 130 pounds I WILL notice it. I removed atleast that much from my 87 sport when I drove it. You hot? lower your damn windows and open the roof up. You want to see if weight is noticable. Tell your friend to ride with you for a while. Then tell him to get off and drive around again. You'll feel it.

The compressor alone weighs around 20 pounds. Remove the condenser/dryer/collector. You might have 50 pounds on your hands. And yes I can tell 50 pounds of weight too. And by accumilating different weight reduction projects you start loosing a lot of weight. At the track you can remove your spare which weighs a good 30 pounds. I removed the matting under the carpet in the rear thats a good 10 pounds. Sound dedening material also takes up weight. Using a lighter aftermarket exhaust also deduces weight. I was down to the block and only the stuff that was basically needed to run by the time I was done. My car was LIGHT! it owned in corners.

Gee, just think about gasoline. It weighs @ 6.25lbs p/gal. You could drive around with 1 or 2 gallons and save another 90lbs.

I'm just willing to give up things that are viewed as "needed" for normal driving. Id someone got into my car they didn't mind at all. Roll down your windows and open the roof then do 65 down the interstate. See how sweaty you get. But yes to each his own. I'm not say you MUST remove everything. But its possible to gain performance if you are willing to make small(yes they are small) sacrifices.

i took mine out cuz i never use it and have a vert.. it frees up lots of engine bay space, especially if you have the power steering out as well.. but power gains are somewhat minimal.

There is no real power gains between having it removed and having it installed and off. Yes when the A/c is on it robs power, but when its off its the same as having it removed.

A lot of you guys would have DIED if you where driving fourty years ago. Most cars didn't have A/C, and the ones that did had it as a big-buck option.
Hell, my grandfather (now long dead) used to special order cars without A/C to save a few bucks. It's not that important.
On that note, A/C was an option in a lot of RX-7's, like mine. It's far from nessicary. Mine was dead when I got the car, I ripped it out within a couple weeks, I just drive with the windows down.
Yes, it frees one or two horsepower, but more importantly about 45 pounds. That's a lot of weight for someone who actually cares.
