Unhappy A/C Doesnt Work

So my A/C was ice cold yesterday and boom nothing today. so i vaccumed it and it had 1.60lb 134a in it. put back the refrigerant and still nothing. the clutch wont engage. clutch moves by hand. the one wire doesnt have no voltage going to the compressor. the 30amp breaker under the dash is good. what do u think my problem is?

Was it out on low pressure before you had it vacuumed and filled?

If it's not out on low pressure, I'd start with the logicon.

I'd check the switch at the dryer. That would be something that would give the 'sudden boom, nothing' symptom.

Well, if its' not the switch, then u might wanna see if you have a leak somewhere or if the compressor is working properly.

we vacuumed tested it, no leaks. the compressor was whining like a supercharger before though. but i dont think it is causing it.

That makes me think it IS the compressor, or at least you should change anyway when it's evacuated otherwise.

what do u mean it whines like a supercharger?

well if u think its making a weird noise, it probably is, and you should get another compressor. It's cheap anyway.

so i did some test today. jumped the compressor clutch and the compressor worked good and ice cold. i tested that pressure sensor assuming its this

i ohmed it and it showed like .6 both at normal and compressor running.

To state the obvious:

The pressure switch only cuts off power to the compressor if it thinks you are to low on Freon. If you pressure tested your system and confirmed it's full, short the two connections to the switch and see if the compressor kicks in. If it does, you've indeed solved your problem.

i jumped it and still nothing all i here is a change in rpm - checked the signal wire to the clutch with it jumped and no voltage. . maybe add a resistor rather than jumping? i dont know what size resistor to use.

Isn't that the radiator temperature switch? The pressure switch should be mounted on an A/C line under the front plastic covers by the receiver/dryer.

That fuse powers the A/C Main Relay.

the picture you showed is not the refrigerant pressure switch, that is the coolant thermoswitch for cold idle assist.

the refrigerant pressure sensor is under the plastic duct to the inboard side of the passenger headlight in the engine bay. disconnect it and jumper the connector, if the clutch kicks in then you either have a bad connection at the connector or a faulty pressure switch.

edit: oops, actually read the thread.
