Question A/c??

Im thinking about ripping the A/C out of my s4 Gtu. Is there anything I should consider before doing this. When i say somethin i should consider i dont mean not having a/c during the winter I mean is there something that i might mess up taking this out?

Search for a/c removal or something. This has been covered a load of times. I think you need block off plates, though I could be wrong. Someone should chime in or you should be able to find your answer by searching.

Is the system pressurized? If it is then you need to have it emptied by an air conditioning tech. If you release it to the atmosphere it's a big no-no and possibly a big *** fine.

I did it on my 91 Turbo II.
When I saw the a/c radiator in front of the engine radiator (stealing all the cool air) I tore it out like a madman. It is an easy removal if you are thorough but you will need a couple of hours. I also got rid of a/c relay and the a/c unit in the car (passenger side over the feet). Cut the belt that moves the condenser, unbolt the pressure lines, unbolt 4 long bolts and the condenser is out. Then remove a/c radiator, a/c relay, all a/c lines, incar unit and you are home free. Just have the service manual handy and have a friend help.

resale value also nose dives without A/C

and you should take it too a A/C tech to remove the Freon. It is against federal law to vent it into the atmosphere, and has been proven to lead to global warming and increased storms.

So your saying that because FxF removed his A/C in Greece and probably released his freon into the atmosphere that is why Florida has been ravaged by 2 hurricanes and is waiting on another. Way to go FxF. If only al queada knew this trick!

Yep... it has been proven for a couple years now. The bigger the holes in the Ozone, the worse weather conditions become.

If you want proof... don't ask the goverment... ask why were the insurance companies behind banning of many types of clorofluorcarbons???

Becaues the synthetic stuff can be sold for more as well as the kits to convert freon to the new stuff.

But i also agree, don't vent it to the athmosphere!

Actually R134-a is farily inexpensive compared to R-12. R-12 goes (or used to) go for $60.00-70.00 per 12 oz. can. R134-a Goes for $5.00-7.00 per 12 oz can.

Dood- you live in Florida! Why even CONTEMPLATE yanking the A/C?

Glad to see you came to your senses before blacking out behind the wheel from heat stroke because you wanted to leave the windows up "for sport" while racing some riced out civic. Whew! what a waste THAT would have been...
