Buying an old 7
Buying an old 7
What would be the smartest thing to do after buying a 20 year old car that's been stock its whole life?
I once read on mazdatrix a list of advice for strengthening/bettering a car like this and i cannot find it again. It had some things like install a digital thermometer, replace all hoses under the hood, and so on... now that i have the car i cant find anything on this again. if anyone knows what page im talking about or one like it please let me know if you can reach it. thanks

just do as much to the car as possible.
its common sense really.
*change all fluid's
*new pads, and rotor's
new brake lines
*new tires
*silicone vac lines
new coolant hoses
new engine, trans, rear diff mount's
*new fuel line's, and filter
new fuel pump
*new air filter
*new belt's
new water pump
*check and clean electrical ground's
*new light bulbs
*check U-joint, check half shaft's
*clutch, pilot bearing, throwout bearing
*clean the hell out of everything.
some of the stuff is more important than others, i put a * next to the stuff ive done, i still need to purchase a new drive shaft.

I am not aware of the Mazdatrix reference, but the above post is pretty good.
Aaron Cake's website is pretty good too:

Good DIY tech info here:

FYI, if your vert's halfshafts start making the clicking death noise, I recommend the ISC Racing rebuilt halfshafts for the best bang for the buck. Mazda doesn't sell new halfshafts anymore, and they wanted over $500 each back when they were in the inventory, which I consider beyond silly.

but thanks Aaron, i admire your work. i wanna get some adderol or something and just read your site a couple of times..lol. but i was posting this because im on a very tight budget and want to make sure my car is strong all around, take care of little things that cause bigger problems. i was in college and realized i cant pay for both, so ive stopped now and will return when my car doesnt get laughed at by everyone in the lot. rx7's are way cooler than school anyway and it will die if i try to make it through 6 yrs of school.
start with the simple, cheap stuff, like fluids, ground's, belt's, brakes, mount's, and hoses.
its very simple....$100 at napa can get alot done to help your RX7 become more reliable and trustworthy.
even if you can afford $50 every weekend....by the end of a month or two, you'll have alot of stuff done to the car.
