Buying a FC great condition and runs great but 210k miles... what to look for?

The car I am looking at starts and runs fine, body in is great shape and interior also, its a glx sunroof ect. Where are the plugs at and is it like checking the compression on a normal motor? Just crank it over to get compression? The car didn't smoke stutter nothing. The car is only $1000 so thats why I am considering. THanks for the advice Jake

Its going to need a rebuild anyways. Just look for a good body. Thats how I would buy now considering every RX-7 is old and will need a rebuild soon anyways.

I'd say the 'rebuild outlook' is a good way to approach the car you're looking at. Definitely check the compression. You can do it using a slightly modified conventional tester (search).

Looking down into the engine bay from the front of the car, the 4 spark plugs are down kind of low on the right side of the block. You should see the plug wires leading to them. If the compression is around 95psi on all of the rotor faces, there's a good chance there's still a lot of life left in the motor. Make SURE there's no white-ish smoke on start-up, cause this would probably be the internal coolant seals going bad (meaning rebuild, pretty much). I bet you could squeeze some life out of the car if you treat it right; change the oil regularly, warm it up good and don't let it over-heat.

get it, its only 1k. U cant expect everything to be in perfect condition for $1k. Since u live in TN id assume u have no snow, so no salt on the roads, so i can guess theres no major rust. 210k is alot of miles, but $1300 for a rebuild by atkins or your choice of rebuilder, and you have a $2300 car that runs like new. better than paying $15k for a new car i guess. but eh. buy what u want.

I dont understand why people ask if they should buy a car. I think you should give me your money. if youll listen to me tell u to or not to get a car, why not let me have ur money.

Well, its all in how you look at it.
If you buy an rx7 thats about due for a rebuild and can get it that cheap, you have to rebuild it which is another 1k... but then you also learn how the internals of an rx7 work. What a fantastic way to look at it!

i was just a bit optimistic when i bought my project car, i was hoping for a somewhat good engine and i got it it didnt have good compression, but the interior is flawless and the body only had a dented front fender and dented rear quater and various other tiny dents.

but for $500 im not complaining
