Buying FC in 2 days

Hi guys,

I posted some picutres of an 1990 GTU for sale that i was interested in purchasing for $600cdn a while back, and now the time has come to go out and buy it.

I currently have an 83 gsl, so this is no the first RX-7 i will be buying, nor the last :P

The car has not been driven for the last 2 years, and the word from the owner(who bought it, but never driven it) is that the car idels, but can stall after a while.
Owner thinks it might be related to the secondaries, but i have my doubts.
I know there might be planty of reasons for this, and i'm not worried about it. I can alwayse sell it for the same amount.

However although i will be buying it in 2 days, i will be brining it to a friends farm, where it will be stored untill spring, or untill i find a garage to work on it.
I plan to see how it drives while on the farm just to get an idea what i will need to do before i can drive it 600km to Montreal, where i live, in spring.

Now that the background story is out the way, here is my question.
Other then the basic things to check for like how it shifts, how the engine works, is there anything related to S5s that I should pay extra attention too?

Here are some pictures of the car, for thouse who have not seen it.

p.s. Any idea what thouse rims are?

you should run it for awhile and do a full tuneup (oil, oil filter, fresh coolant, flush brakes, flush clutch resivior, full tank of gas with a fuel stabilizer) before you let it sit so it will bath in new fluids dreaming about the road in the spring.

Good idea, will change the fluids, especialy the coolant, but as for actuall breaks, will propably leave them alone till spring. No garage, and don't want to be changing break pads out in the snow again :P

Don't park it ON grass,as it will be like dropping the car in Water. It will eat the Underside if the car Quick.Clean a spot off where the car is going to sit,and Roll a Tarp out,.drive it onto the tarp and then Cover the car with more Tarps,or a cover or whatever.

LOL, it IS too late

I'm hooked on rx-7 and wankels even if they do cost more to repair and rebuilt.
Have an 83 gsl, and planing to bUy the fc, and another fb this week. :P the 2nd fb is going to be used as a shell. I would never trade another car for my rx-7. nor can i even imagine buying a piston engine in the near future.

.
no they are not. you didnt factor in the fact you have no timing belt or head gasket to replace.

change those out enough and you have basically the price of a new rebuild.

The vin checks out as an 1990 make, sold in 1994 :P The tail ligts been changed, as they where cracked.

and now for an update.

Well, i bought it ^^

I was extremly surpised by how well preserved it was for a 18 year old canadian, quebec car. The wheel wells are all original,no rust, the under body is in mint condition. Some minor body rust from chiped paint. Nothing major, and in better condition then my 99 car :P

I was not able to get it to start, was -20 or so, but came very close.
The battery was drained competly, and just didn't have time to trouble shoot it any more, spent around 20min and was completly frozen.
It does need a good cleaning of the engine bay, and the intakes.

Here is a short video of the 2nd start attemept. It did start for a second :P( i blame the cold, spark plugs, intake, and a dead battery for it not starting completly).http://scerbina.com/phpFe/phpFe.php/...7/2ndstart.zip

The car has 142,000 km and except for a riped out interior(missing trim pieces and no audio, or speakers) doesn't have traces of abuse.

It's now parked at a friends house waiting for spring to arive, when i will go and try to get it running before i bring it back home ^^

white tail lights, especially older S4 signifies 1988 10th aniversary model.. but could also be someone just painted em.. definitely older tail lights on there. Nothing real special about them besides that... Not that desirable in my opinion.

Why is the engine bay black? is it dirty, or did someone spray can it black, or was the car originally black?

For $600 bucks tho you cant go wrong, looks like a nice chassis.

Looks like a shaved third brake light *or i dont know if canadian cars dont have them*, but id guess someone definitely was playing with this car. Not that its a bad thing.
The guy probably sold the S5 tail lights and rear view mirrors to someone with a S4 and swapped em.

i think it's just dirt.
The engine bay is covered in dust and dirt.
The car is a scrap yard rescue, was rescued just before it got to the scrapyard, so luckely it is not listed as junked. Spent two years, not being driven after then passing through 2 different set of hands.
Reason for current sale into my hands, upcoming child, and problems with registration.
Luckely in quebec we can register a car with just prove of sale and an inspection :P

There might be something wrong with the engine, but from the sound it made when it started shortly, i doubt it.
I have a feeling it will start in spring with little problems.
