Exclamation Burnt out exhaust?? How about the RB exhaust from 87??? Need advice here.

Well I have heard that the Racing Beat exhaust is the best for the RX-7 but I was inclined to think that it was the newer versions. Well anyways I was told by a friend athat works at a muffler shop that after awhile your exhaust gets "burnt out" and it can affect the performance of your car. My friend swears on his $150 a peice tires that his TII runs low 13's, to high 12's. Bull ****. How can this car get this fast with only an FCD and a racing beat exhaust from 1987? wouldn't this exhaust be burnt out too? I just don't get how he can get off talking **** about my GXL that I built myself when he got his dads beater *** TII That hasn't been fixed up in the past 10 years. Is it even posible to go as fast as he says he is with these mods only? And no tune up? With about 100,000 miles?
Charles

hum... don't know about thoes times, and have never herd of a exhaust burning out, but i know that on a seven you can't use a normal exhaust because they run so hot, the average exhaust temp for a piston engine is 2,500- 2,900 and a rotory is 3,500- 3,900(my numbers might be a little off) i guess things could start to go wrong cuz of the extra heat or somthing...

A little high on the exhaust numbers.... Try 1800 Fehrenheit.

Exhaust will not burn out.

Your friend will be running around 14 second timeslips. MAYBE high 13's...

I run mid to high 13's and I have the turbo back exhaust by RB I have AVS sport tires they helped alot another thing to consider is when I put on that exhaust the clutch could not handle the extra ponies and burnt out in two days. the only thing that can burn out on a exhaust that I am aware of is the cats when I took my old exhaust the primary cat was all but sealed up I heard that if a cat closes up on a rx7 you can kiss your engine good buy because all that heat just goes back into the engine.

A cheap muffler will burn out because it will melt the glass pack. A muffler built for a rotary (such as racing beat's) will be steel packed, and wont melt. It's another reason that mufflers for our cars are that much more expensive. As was said before, a drop in performance will be felt if your cats burn out - that's what you have to look for - 'cause it will kill the engine.
