Burnt my clutch racing last night? and WTB

Ok guys.. I toasted my clutch..beat three cars at the drags and my clutch pedal sunk to the ground and would not come back up unless I pulled it out with my foot. then I would be able to shift until the shifter would get stuck again like the clutch was engaged when it actually was to the floor. So I let it cool down but after 15 minutes of driving the clutch actually seized on me as if it acted like I was putting on the brakes.. I didnt smell any clutch and it grabbed good. My car is on the freeway right now.

Does anyone have a clutch to sell me.. Oh and can someone tell me whats up with my clutch please?

I have a used (a little over 1 yr old) Centerforce dual friction clutch with pressure plate. $100. It's been a great clutch for my car but now with the added parts i know that sucker won't hold 350 ft/lbs for very long. SO i got something bigger. Pm me if you're interested.

If the clutch pedal stays to the ground and you have to pull it up off the ground, then I'd say its probably the clutch master cylinder. If thats not it then maybe the clutch slave cylinder.

My clutch master cylinder went out on me and I had the same symptoms that you described.

yup my master cyl was the same way. I drove home by tying a shoelace around my foot and onto the clutch pedal to yank it back up. Managed to limp home that way executing some damn fast shifts.

Sounds like a hyraulics issue, not a burned out clutch. If it were the clutch disk, it wouldn't be noticeable much by the pedal, just that it would slip when driving (RPMs come up but the car doesn't accelerate much)

Look at the hose, bleed the slave, look for positive slave engagement, replace both if they are inoperable (insurance, and besides, they both probably need replacement by now)

of course the pedal also won't pop up if the preasure plate is shot.. Most likely though is your slave is busted.

Right on guys...thnx for the helpful info. Does anyone have a diagram of the clutch master cylinder. I know the concept. Piston in a cylinder with equalizing pressures pushing the rod and spring or something? A pic would help.

It probably is the clutch slave. I've replaced alot of them, but not on the RX7s. Fairly simple to install, but take the old one and push the piston in to see if it sticks. Just to make sure. It's not fun to switch parts and find out you assumed wrong.
Also, pickup a fsm or at least a Haynes repair manual. If you search around for an Automotive Technologies text book (college level or ASE), it will explain how everything on a car works. You won't believe how handy they are!

Always replace the two. If the slave goes than the master won't last that much longer either..this has happened to me twice. And both time about a month to 3 months later the clutch went.....when it rains it pours.
