Talking bumper progress pics

aight guys heres some pics of a bumper i have been workin on off and on for a few weeks on my off days....looks quite rough but its at least in the direction i want it to be in.....just gonna need alot of TLC. Anyhow i made a quickie mold of an s5 front while mounted on the car then a bumper out of that mold, which explains why i am missing the ftp and the signals, so i am going to have to fab those up, no biggie. Anyhow i made the lower portion from plastic board and urethane foam. I some how made a mistake in the placement of the bottom part and when i shaved all of the excess foam away something wasnt looking right...and then when i flipped it upside down for the pics i noticed how off it was....so back to the jigsaw Anyhow the pics are upside down because i pulled the lip off, makes it easier to work on. Once i have the lip right as well as the two main supports (teeth) and the ducts done in foam i will lay glass chopped mat over the shape, then icing and sanding over that and fixing the obvious nastiness which isnt that big of a deal, just a pain in the culo. The gaps for the ducts look huge but once i finish the shapes on the insides it will look a lil more conservative. Anyhow...feast away....

another angle.....as you can see i only have one part of a plastic support on there, or tooth as you will......but at least you can get an idea of the general shape

mozzarella cheese isnt just for pizza......if ull notice in the pic how off the lip is right in front.....seems really straight across......bust out the jigsaw......thats part of the problem i was talking about, in the next pic you will really be able to tell

im also currently workin on another hood design.......the two red boxes are where i am going to have two sloping vents, and two rear vents in the corners, similar to the KS Fd design. If one headache wasnt bad enough (not to mention the one from the pics being upside down loooooooool) two are more fun for sure.

i plan on making a mold of mine once i get it all done and right, i obviously have quite a bit of work to do. That bumper in particular is going to be heavier n'ell thats why i cant even have the lip attached because it is so front heavy it wants to fall over. once i get everything right im gonna glass the whole front and start digging out the foam from behind it, and then im going to have to do some serious bondo and sanding to fix all the rest of the obvious parts, but at least its a start. When i do start making these id like to get rid of them for cheap, the whole idea was to make something i like for myself without having to pay 700 dollars for it, so id say around 350-385 tops, and once i get this done im going to make myself some side skirts, then rear caps that will fit s5 rear, and once that is all said and done i want to make a spoiler similar to the 87 sport but a lil more updated....ill keep you guys posted, but i wont be able to do anymore work on it or more pics until friday or saturday and ill walk you guys thru it as i go thru the stages..till tonight...peace

Nice!!

Is that hood made or is it just fiber glass laid out?

Nice idea on making the bumper. If I part out my 88 SE I am going to gank the font bumper off to make a mold out of it.

Is that a hacked up bumper your using or a mold of one?

I've always wanted to do that stuff.

wow that sounds great, and its a great price! seems like all of the better front bumpers for FCs out there are upwards to 600+ unfortunately, so yours will be a nice change

double post (502prxyerrormotherfunpeiceofshnitboostd7didntwege tnewservers!!??)

sorry...since im eaditing i might as well respond....digitech, yes it is a copy from a mold, probably would have been easier to get an s5 front and ust tear it up, but I had acces to one but it was a repro and didnt look right unles it was mounted on the car and even then it didnt fit right.....so i did what i had access to. As far as that hood goes its the undeside of just the skin as it sits in the mold.....the other stuff is coremat i have to laydown in order to put down the reinforcement and then underside structure that way it doesnt print thru...once i have the underside done then i pull it from the mold, make my cuts then i have a hood in progress, so right now it is at 30 percent completion. As far as price goes oncei get eveything right and if it all fits right and looks good to go and there are people interested Id do a group buy to make up for my investment of time and money and throw some more savings out there...sell ten of them for for 340 or something....which is a damned good price, but i dont want this to be a negotiating thread just yet, i still have yet to finish the thing...anyhoots...ill keep you updated, and if you guys are interested in this kinda deal check out -bumper grill ducts- thread from 88integrals

Hey DLT, you think you'll ever make some bumpers sans pop-up's?

Hey man you should try to make a stationary headlight kit, something like east bear. Guy at teamfc3s was planning on making one but never got back to us about it. I'v been looking for a affordable stationary headlight kit for FC's for very long time now. Does anyone know if someone sells those kits?

Border, ReA, and Rmagic, but all of these require a special bumper as well.

Hey DL!

I don't suppose if you have a time you're planning on doing this sometime soon if you take visitors do you?

I've been trying to get into maybe some fabbing and moudling myself, but I would love to see how the pros do it.

I'm right up in Vancouver, WA so if it was cool with you I'd love to come peek over your shoulder while you work.

PM me with the details if you get the chance
