Broken drivers side window switch!

Two questions.

1) Can I pry up the plastic surround from the door handle without breaking it? Or do I need to take the whole door panel off...

2) Can I buy a whole new thing from Mazda or just go to a junkyard for it? I was hoping the two switches and window lock would terminate in a plug...Do they?

1) Yes - There are spring clips on the front & back sides.
They just pry up.
On S4's you can disasemble the switch & clean the contacts, but watch out for where all the little spring loaded pieces go.

2) There is a short pigtail from the switch to the plug - maybe 4".

Ah...Well on mine, the plastic switch broke completely...

When I pulled it out, the springs popped out everywhere. So I guess theyre pretty much lost.

I assume I could run up to Mazda and buy a new assembly for it all? Or would I be better off going to a junkyard...

mazda is gonna want more than $100.. bet you can get a junk yard one for $25

and I always pull the door panel and release the clips for the switch, rather than prying and trying to pop up the switch. 12+ year old plastic is way too brittle to try and force up there.

Also...When you remove the drivers side unit from the harness, does it stop the passenger window from rolling down?

I pulled the unit, and was trying to jumper the two terminals to get the window to roll up...but burned myself in the process After that, I tried checking the passenger side window and it wont roll down or up.
I checked my fuses, and none of them are blown, so I was just assuming that when the driver side unit is removed, it locks the passenger window. Am I right?

The passengers window switch gets its power from the drivers switch, (the lock out switch in the drivers switch provides the power, while the passengers window switch in the drivers door provodes the ground), so yes the pass window will stop working if there is no drivers switch.

Alright. Thanks

One more question...While trying to jumper the connection, I somehow reset my ECU?

I didnt notice it at first but when I went to drive it home tonight, I saw that it was idling funny ( it later fixed itself ) and that my clock was way off. Any idea how that happened?
The only other things I did today was pull all my speakers out and take out a couple fuses that I didnt need anymore ( I was checking for the blown window fuse and took out useless ones as spares in the process).
