Broken drivers door latch?

About a week or so ago, my drivers door decided it didn't want to open from the inside or outside anymore. It worked the day before, just randomly stopped working.

I finally got around to pulling the doorpanel off, got it to open just playing with a screwdriver on the latches inside the door.

It now opens and closes fine, i can lock and unlock it, and it will open fine, but if i pull the outside door handle at all while it's locked it will not open anymore, and i have to take the doorpanel off and play with it again.

I can see a spring only attached on one side, so i assume this is the problem but i can't see anywhere it could possibly connect to, nor how it would (not a hooked end, just straight piece of wire on the spring)

Do i need to buy the whole latch assembly? Anyone else have any ideas?

Sorry i phrased that wrong.

If i pull the handle while it's locked even just once, and then unlock the door, it will not open.

I had that same issue, the spring broke, you need to get that spring and make it reconnect at the right spot or get a new spring and then reconnect that one to the right spot.
Shortly after I fixed that the door handle broke completely and I couldn't open the door from the outside, only from inside. Had to get another handle from scrape yard. =O(
The spring is really hard to get to I got pissed off and cut a huge chunk out of the inside of teh door (leaving the metal that take the screws). Then I found the broken spring and fixed it with that spring.

I had a similar problem but it delt with the metal slider bars, the metal slide bar that goes vertical and attaches into a plastic doo-dad on the inside of the door latch, my plastic peice became broken so was unable to open the door from the outside but from the inside it was fine.

if thats the issue look at the plastic tab doo-hickey and see if has become un attached, it will be in the upper left hand corner if your looking on it at from the inside.
