broke a manifold stud...

anyone have any good tricks to removing one? it broke flush with the block so its right there. my neighbor let me borrow a stud extractor, and he said just drill it first and then use this. so i get my drill ready and i dont have enough room to get at the bolt to dril it straight on. only at a angle! anyone help me out?

thanks

Drill a small hole in the center of it, and use an easy-out to remove it.

I broke a head bolt off on my Metro and had to use an easy-out to fish it out, worked rather well.

Man that really SUCKS! . I think you should A. Pull your motor and street port it , or B. Find something smaller to drill it with. I don't know what kind of drill fitting's a dremel might have, but it is alot smaller than a drill, and it's an invaluable tool! Hope you get this resolved. I had the same thing happen twice on my thermostat housing, but it's not like I didn't have enough room =(. Rusted bolts SUCK

It sounds to me like the stud extractor that your neighbor gave you is the same thing as an ez out. Can you cut down on the length of the drill bit and get the drill mtr in the space? Or will the drill even without a bit in it still be too big? If not you need some type of right angle drill motor(rent one?). Note: sometimes when a stud breaks like this, and the manifold is removed, you can actually with a couple of very small screwdrivers, turn the stud because there is no tension now keeping the stud from moving. Chances of this are slim, but can happen.

drilling

If you have access to an aircraft mechanic he or she will almost certainly have a right angle air operated drill. This tool looks like a die grinder except it has a right angle gear head on it and accepts threaded shank drills. It is used in aircraft work for drilling in close quarters.

A good drill like this costs around 400 bucks.
