Bringing an RX7 back to life - problems
The apex seal on my old '87 rx7 went out, so i got another '87 that ran before it had been sitting in a field (since '97).
I've gone through the fuel, electric, and air intake system and have had to replace:
Fuel Pump (didn't work)
ignition coils (coroded)
spark plugs
spark plug wires
fuel injectors
air intake (the thing with valves, hooked up to the intake manifold, valves froze)
squirted some oil into the chambers
I have verified that fuel is getting to the injectors, the spark plugs have spark, all the fuses are good, and the engine has compression.
After i got everything back together, exept for the air intake duct, I flipped the key back and forth a couple of times, tried to start it, and it started right away (alot of smoke)
I was suprised, and didn't keep it going, and wasn't able to get it started after.
I was then told by my RX7 mechanic friend that the spark plug wires were in the wrong position and it shouldn't of been able to start with the air duct off.
First thing I would like to verify is where to put the spark plug wires. Looking at the engine from the drivers side, there are 2 ignition coils on the left, and 2 on the right. The ones on the right say T1 and T2. I believe T1 will go to the T spark plug hole on the left, T2 on the right, and the same, respectivly, with the other ignition module. Is this correct?
Right now I have a hypothosis that when I was changing the fuel injectors, some gas got in the engine, which is why it started right away. When I get off work, I'm going to see if electricity is going to the injectors. Does anyone know the voltage/amperage the injectors should be getting? Does anyone have any other insight as to anything else i might need to replace/ check?

it'll start w/ the intake off...only for like 3 seconds though. Think of the spark plugs as T=top and L= lower, that my help you out a bit. T2 and L2 are the rear rotor.

Also, I hope you totally drained and flushed the fuel tank before trying to start the car. If not, then you'll now need to replace all the fuel lines, fuel filter (remember the pump sock), and send the injectors out for cleaning.
Since the engine has been sitting so long, it may take several attempts to get it going. Find a thick lube, like assembly lube. Pour about an ounce into each chamber. Make sure that you have reconnected the intake (car won't run if the AFM is disconnected) and try to get it going. The thick assembly lube sticks around until the engine warms up, keeping compression high. Drive the engine carefully for the next few hundred miles.

for sure one of the first things you should have done was drain the bad gas out and flush the tank. my buddy bought an 87 TII for 500.00 from a guy who couldnt get it running, my friend towed it down the street to the gas station, drained the gas and filled it up with fresh gas and it fired right up, damn what a steal 500.00 for a TII
