Bridgeport/Turbo Question
Ok... I have a 89 GTUs. I just got the engine pulled tonight with no problems actually.(took about 2 hours) Here's the thing....I am getting it rebuilt, with a full bridgeport and am deciding on getting a turbo or not.. If I were to get a turbo, could someone tell me exactly what I would need?? I am on a $3k budget for the whole thing...and after the rebuild and bridgeport i should have about 1,400-1,500 left over. Would that be enough for everything else that I would need? Also, I forgot what kind of injectors I needed.(I think they are from a GSL-SE or something like that) Anyone know? good job.
I say bridgeprot then get a big bottle of NOS. then make all the little upgrades to make your car run safer like some kind of fuel computer and some bigger injectors, new fuel pump, and.......................................
a real paint job

what kind of engine management do you have? if you're running a bridgeport on a stock ecu you will actually want to end your life.
3k isnt going to be enough if you still have to rebuild the engine and buy all parts/experience needed to run a bridgeported 13b correctly (especially if its turbo)

You're going to need a standalone to make it run well (even if it's NA), and you'll certainly need to go standalone if it's turbo.
Not to mention that a turbo large enough to support a full bridge (are you sure it's just not half bridge?) will be nearly $3K in itself.
You're going to have a mess of a time running a full bridge engine on the stock ECU. And it will be totally choked by the S5 intake manifold.

if 3k is your budget and you want any reliability out of this car I would say stop now before you port the thing and its going to blow up on you. You will not even get threw the break in. Engine Management should be step 1 of any build. If you don't have the money for that just stop.

You need to stop, and rethink your project. Perhaps someone can chime in w/NA BP HP potential, but 1500.00 is not enough for the fuel/cooling/ engine management mods you need to support 400hp. You would be fortunate to get an E6K, and get it tuned for 1500.00. This does not include any of the hardware you need to support 400hp. With that goal, I would look at a Turbo conversion (stock S5 TII, street ported), initially, with the plan of going to an upgraded turbo system at a later date. A BP will not last, and will cost as much as a turbo conversion to support. Not to mention it will be no fun on the street. ssuming excellent overall condition on your car, I would look for a complete donor TII, and go from there. Carl

Hey Ilostmypants, toss me a PM. I can help you with this. I also do this kind of work and particularly exactly this bridgeport turbo setup. I'm in Grand Prairie. Swing on over, sometime.
