Breaks so hot they screw up engine...?

Hey guys, I've been a bit dorment in my posting mainly because I'm at college and my car is in the hands of mechanics. It is currently at rp performance in manassas virginia. I like how they have treated me so far, and definitely reccomend them. But I digress. Basically what Brett (mechanic there) has told me is that since my calipers are catching (which i already knew about) that the breaks are creating so much heat that it could be the main problem I am having... would this be because the sensors are all out of whack, or what? anybody else ever have this problem? (They are going to put new calipers all around on it next week some time, so hopefully that will fix my problem!)

https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...hreadid=207057

that's my orginial post on my cars problems... basically i'm asking u guys if A) anybody has had my problem and B) do you guys think that brett is right?

thanks!

I have seen pads/rotors get so hot because of sticking pistons, or deteriorated brake lines, the smoke bellows out from the wheels. It's as if you're riding with the brakes applied. I find it hard to believe the brakes would be causing that much of a problem. I would think if the car is holding back under acceleration because of the sticking brakes, you sure would have known when clutch depressed and car would stop without applying brakes. If you know they're bad and need to be fixed and you're not going to do it, let them replace the offending calipers then give a shot. I would think big $$$ though.

B-r-a-k-e-s can get hot enough to fail.&nbsp When brakes fail, they can cause you to plow into a wall.&nbsp Plowing into a wall is fatal for the engine.

No, there is no direct way overheating brakes can affect the engine.

yes, the breaks were getting extremely hot, and no i do not have abs, which is why i didn't think that the overheating breaks would affect the engine. However, regardless to wether or not it will be the fix i am looking for, it's still something that needs to be taken care of, so... meh. any other responces would be appreciated

the only way the brakes would effect the engine running was if the brakes were on while you tryed to move. nothing to do with the heat.

::sigh:: well, the breaks are kinda on when I move... the calipers are sticking a little, but that wouldn't cause the engine to clunk after about 30 seconds... would it?

BRAKES, not breaks, BRAKES.

No, the brakes do not affect anything but themselves. Could the clunk you hear be when you let off the gas and the driveline gets loaded in the other direction since the brakes are still on?

first off, i go to an engineering school, where i'm not required to know how to spell. second off, i honestly don't remember when the clunck occurred, it's been about a month since I've even seen my car, let alone driven it :-/

i talked again to brett yesterday, he says that putting the new calipers in seems to have taken away most of my problems (the secondaries still aren't fireing for some reason, but he said he'll look at that too) I'm pretty excited that I'm gonna get my nice "new to me" fc on the road soon (only took about 4 months of work on it...)
