Brake problem

Hey everyone,
I am having problems with my brakes on my 88 vert NA.
Here are my symptoms.
1)The STOP light does not come on when I hit the brake
2a)I hit the brakes, they are firm for the first second then they just sink all the way down to the floor.
2b)When it is all the way at the floor i can still "stop"

These both started at the same time Saturday i think as far as i'm aware.

From what I've gathered problem 2 is either a failing master or failing brake booster line. any help on this? Is problem 2 causing problem 1?

Most likely a failing master cylinder. There is a procedure in the FSM to test the booster. Its highly unlikely it failed, I've never seen a bad one.

is the "stop" light you're referring to the brake lights? +1 on the master cylinder for the other stuff tho

+1 master cylinder

two separate problems though. you need to check your brake light switch on the pedal. use a DMM and do a continuity test on it. make sure that works and make sure the pedal trips it.

well, bleed your brake system first. Maybe you have air in your lines. It will be a cheap way to see if it fixes the problem. If it persists then you can move on to buying Master and slave cylinders.

Check www.nopi.com to see if they have good deals on these parts.
