Brake Lines WTF....HELP

oK I am trying to install ss lines and once again i realize that i hate the rx only because everything is old and rusted on tight. Either way i had a couple question
its a 90 gxl btw

when replacing the front line i disconnected the stock ss line from the rubber hose however the rubber hose is stilkl in the clamp, how do i get it out? i already removed the c clip that holds them

Secondly the rear driver side was incredibly hard to get off and the 10mm nut is rounded. So i am planning on cutting the stock ss line right behind it and buying a new 10mm nut (well its kinda a nut, not sure what its called) and then flare the end of the stock line. Does anyone know the stock line size? or any other info that may be helpful when doing this? thanks

i dont like to try things and see how they work when it comes to brakes

Chris,
It has been a LONG time since I replaced my stock brake lines to SS. I didn't have too much of a problem: Removing the C clips and using 2 flare nut wrenches to disconnect the brake lines. If it was stuck in place wiggle it around or remove the bracket with the line.

Then again, if one of the nuts are rounded grab some vice-grips. also try using some PB Blaster to break the bonds of corrosion.

sorry to bring this thread back up, but i just did what krazykoncepts did. put wd40 on the lines and used flared wrenches, without much effort, the stupid fitting thing on the hard line (rear) got rounded. do i cut the line as far out as i can, pull the old fitting off, put the new one on, and flare the hard line again? and can i just go to lowes or some plumbing place and get those fittings? anyone got tips, comments, or anything?

if you can get access to a brake line wrench and a blowtorch to heat up the nut, it will help alot

Brake lines require a double flare, not a single like plumbing lines. Sears has a kit for about $17. Next time, use PB Blater, W-D 40 just doesn't cut it, and a good set of flare wrenches is a must.

On the rear calipers, those are banjo bolts, not nuts. Use a proper 10x12mm flare nut wrench from sears and you'll get those off.

Don't forget about the copper crush washers, there are two on each caliper. If your new lines don't have these, you'll need to reuse 'em. Also, the lower crush washers may stick to the caliper body.

I should know, I replaced my brake hoses last week in an overhaul. :-) Though I went new OEM vs. SS.

i have them off. i used perfectly good craftsman flared wrenches and it rounded it off in no time. yes...they were the right size if u were thinking otherwise. do u guys think i can just go get the bango bolts from lowes or something then? im sure my friend (dad has a tire shop) has the flaring tool, but other wise, its not that expensive for a new one and ill prob end up needing sometime else in my life. and finally, i have ss lines all around and it came with the crush washers, its just one on the caliper, one on top of the line, and then the bolt that goes through correct? thanks guys

I've been working on too many 1st gens, forgot about the banjo bolt on the seconds. The bolt may be hard to find, since it is metric, and banjo. I went through Aeroquip, Russell, and Earl's catalogues, found banjos, but not the right banjo bolt. You may need to visit the dealer for that one.
