Question Brake Issues

My break pedel went to the floor a couple of days ago and has been doing this ever since. It went from having no problems to all of a sudden going to the floor. I bleed the brakes and replaced the front pads (almost no braking material left on them). I tested the braking again and it had the same problem. I checked the booster per the procedures in the FSM and it is fine. I bled the brakes again and ran through an entire 32oz bottle of Prestone DOT3 break fluid so that I was sure all the old break fluid was gone from the system. I tested the breaks again and the problem is still the same. I have not spotted any leaks and the resevoir was full before I even touched the system after the first signs of a problem. I checked through the archived threads and could not find anything similar to my brake issue ( no leaking fluid, sudden onset of break pedel going to the floor). Does anyone have an idea of whether the master cylinder needs to be replaced even though it is not leaking?

check ABS

it leaks pretty bad sometimes

if it does, take it out

mine went from having to be bled every couple of months to every 2 hours overnight. The leak just decided to ante up or something

It does not have ABS on it. It has the 4 piston calipers up front and the 1 piston calipers in the rear. From what I have read about ABS in the FSM it sounds like a nightmare to work on:-).

The FMS does not have troubleshooting steps to rule out the master cylinder. Thats why I am wondering if thats what it might be. I do not think it is a bad caliper because the car does not pull to one side when I put the brake pedal all the way to the floor.

yeah, sounds like a master cylinder problem. It could be that the seals on the master cylinder piston are totaly shot, and the fluid blows by it when you hit the brakes.

I have instructions on replacing the MC but I have not seen anything on the slave cylinder.

Thats what I was thinking too. It's just that every archived thread on the subject listed the MC as having a leak. Mine is not leaking a drop. I got a price on a new MC and they wanted $93 which is not bad but I heard that the resivoir on top of the MC is a hassle getting back on. I'll pick up the MC in the morning and post the outcome tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.
