Brake Calipers

Will brake calibers from a 4 lug set-up bolt on to a a 5 lug?

Edit: The caliper is from an 88 gtu and we wanna put it on an 89 gxl

Maybe the calipers will work, but you'll need different brackets for the calipers to move them out farther, at least for the fronts. They're probably the same calipers that are used on the S5 base models (5 lug, single piston calipers), but that may not be the case. If you're using 5 lug solid rear rotors IIRC they're the same size as the 4 lugs, so you should be fine there. The rear calipers will not work with the vented rears though, you need a thicker caliper.

all 5 lug fcs have the same 4 piston front calipers (great brakes) with vented rotors front and rear. 4 lug fc's have crappy single piston front calipers and smaller diameter rotors i belive, also the rears are not vented. like wotnartd said tho both cars you mentioned, gtu and gxl were 5 lug cars so if they are those cars the caliper will work. But if you need a new caliper they are like 70 bucks brands new with pads and will be much more reliable than a junker caliper. older calipers, especially ones that have been sitting a while wil fail much sooner that a new unit. Brakes are very important don't skimp here

that's a negative. my 91 5 lug s5 had single piston brakes up front and solid rear rotors.

No and no.

The 4 lug rotors are smaller, so much of the pad will be hanging off in space if you put 4 pot calipers on a 4 lug car.

In the rear you'll loose the parking brake and you'll certainly run into bias issues.

an 88 gtu is 5 lug.
The only 4 lug from the S4 is the Se model I think.

All S5 came with 5 lug (I've never seen a 4 lug version if there is one)
The caliper seems the same if its a single piston. Im seeing the same product number from various stores.

If you want the 4 piston caliper to a single caliper car, youll need the entire hub assembly.

Count the number of holes on that rotor. In short, yes. I used one stock hole and then drilled 3 more.

Actually there are 6 holes showing if you look but 2 are for the lil screw that helps secure the rotor to the hub...the screw that i hate cuz it always gets stuck on me and i end up stripping

but none the less good innovative idea!

Really can anyone confirm this? I thought only four lug cars got the single piston brakes.

Yes, the base S5's got single piston calipers and solid rear rotors, they are 5 lugs still though. My car was like this untill I swapped in the better brakes.
