Brake caliper rebuilding service?
Brake caliper rebuilding service?
I'm planning to overhaul my brakes this April, and am wondering if anyone knows a good brake caliper rebuilding service. My budget limit per caliper is $80.
I got an estimate from Goldlinebrakes of 128.95 each for the fronts and 153.95 each for the rears, which includes their black polymer coat.
Yes, I know I can buy remans for a LOT less, but mine are in good shape and I want them coated in black. Why rebuild them? Mainly for piece of mind--the fluid hasn't been changed since fall of 2001.

I'm starting to ask myself "why not," considering the cost of the rebuild, so I'd better rethink my strategy.
From what I've heard, if I want a coating on a caliper to last, powdercoating is the best way to go.

Is it really that hard to rebuild brakes yourself? I've never ripped any of my busted sets of calipers apart, but they seem pretty simple (well, the front ones at least, the emergency brake in the rear might make that a bit harder).
