Which BOV and why

I'd like to hear your experience/opinion on BOVs. Which one did you select for your mod and why do you like it? I'm looking into this for my 10AE with the following:

Rebuild with port/polish
R/C 750cc injectors
RB Turbo II exhaust
Walbro 255
FPR (don't recall make/model at this moment)
Microtech LTX12
MSD Blaster coils

300HP goal

Thanks for sharing!

I used a Greddy RS for the longest time.No issues.
I just switched up to a Turbonetics Godzilla. This thing is NUTZ!..I think it was the best choice I ever made.
The only thing is that,,Well..it is HUGE!
here are "before" and "after" shots of the engine.
One with the Greddy Rs on the Greddy Fd elbow(TII engine) and then the other pic showing where I positioned the Godzilla.
Oh,I like the RS because of dependability,
The Turbonetic because it Opens when I take my Foot off the throttle.(pssshhh),..and it sounds mean!

I use the Blitz SS. It sounds amazing! It can also be quiet if you are easy on the throttle. Great response though. Here is a little drag vid of this last year so you can hear it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWxoGSt5NJ4

I deleted my blowoff valve years ago.

I do like the sound of the HKS SSQV on an Rx-7 though. If you've got a stock turbo and intercooler you can use the stock air bypass valve just fine. You don't need anything different.

1SWEET7 nice vid clip! Yea that Blitz bov sounds pretty good. Nice races too, did you beat that mustang at the end of the clip? What numbers are you running?

I'm using a Pettit Racing bov, i have yet make a video at this time. The main difference between bov's is sound preference. Unless you're boosting high which then you'd need a racing bov, but your goal is 300hp so most bov's on the market are fine. My personal favorite but have yet to import it, is the SARD R2D2, sounds amazing, based on youtube video clips.

im rocking the ssqv, been very happy, very little boost leak, because the boost presses against the diaphram to help create a seal, others just rely on a spring to prevent boost leak,

id say either the ssqv or the synapse bov (almost the same as the ssqv, using boost to seal, but works better, very pricy tho..)

alllll thoooo i would try really hard to get the sard r2d2, just beacuse of starwars!!!

what if he's an athiest, then ur ''god like'' arguement wouldnt be much good...
he might need something a little more technical, a reason it functions well on a car.
like release time, or holding psi's, something like that

Yes I did beat that Mustang. I ran a 14.2@101 on no grip street tires. Next season I will have M/T drag radials and hopefully a new hybrid turbo.

I used to use HKS valves, but have switched over to the Synapse valves. Never leaks and works flawlessly. I have had issues with pretty much every other type of valve leaking or not working properly, but the Synapse just cannot leak and is beyond fast reacting.

I love my HKS ssqv for both sound and performance. If you're sticking with your stock top mount like I have thus far, you can get kits for both the HKS and Greddy BOV's that will just bolt on. Very simple and you don't have to worry about welding or anything.

Like a genuine Mazda bypass valve. That's about as old-school as it gets too.

I have an R2d2 bov installed on my car, fugging love it. I'll try to get a video when it's warmer out, it flutters at lot rpms, then PSHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhh at higher up. I've also had the hks ssqv, but you have to change the spring inside to suit it for rotary vacuum or it doesn't operate correctly.

Can you buy said kits NOT including BOV?

i've never seen a greddy valve that didn't leak above 12psi. I personally like the HKS pull types.

I don't think I've ever seen those kits without the BOV included with them. I'm sure if you look in the classifieds or ask around you may find someone that had the kit and upgraded to a front mount intercooler where you wouldn't need the kit anymore as the BOV would mount directly to the piping instead of the adaptor. The HKS adaptor pipe is similar to that of the Greddy, but it uses some of the stock rubber hoses instead of a metal pipe like the Greddy uses. I'll check to see if I have any picks of my HKS kit when I get home.

I've had all the top brands, but my favorite was my Prof Sheepdog. The best sounding bov I had was the stock FD (on my FD) vented to atmosphere.

Im using a 1g dsm bov. Why? Cause i walked out of pick n pull and "forgot" it was in my pocket. Holds fine for stock turbo and ive seen the srt guys "crushing" them. Then can push round 20 psi before it starts leaking
