Bov
What do i have to do to be able to vent my BOV to the atmosphere. If my dad agrees to it ill be getting the greddy BOV for graduation. and a buddy has it vented and it sounds beautiful in his GS-T.

every BOV sounds different on each car. the sound it produces depends on lots of variables like what mods you have on the car and what kinda boost you're running.

from what i understand, there is a hose the goes from the BOV to the TID (recirculation hose i guess) that you need to take off in order to vent to the atmosphere. when you take that hose off there will be a hole in the TID that you'll need to plug. other then that i think thats all that you have to do to vent it like that.
you can open vent your BOV by not rerouteing it back into the intake
you;ll have to plug the TID hole so you dont have a vac leak or else you'll be pulling in unmetered air, venting into the atmosphere will cause a brief rich condition each time you shift. since the stock bov vents extra air back into the intake, the ECU compensates by adding extra fuel into the engine, with the BOV venting into the atmosphere, the air that would supposedly go into the intake to compensate for the extra fuel being injected wont be there, causing a brief rich condition which usually results in very very minute throttle response when you get back on the gas, and usually some nice fireballs

With the stock BOV you need to put a one-way check valve on the end of the BOV otherwise it's a constant vacuum leak in itself. Aftermarket BOVs are made to vent into the atmosphere so they have ways of keeping closed, the stock BOV doesn't care if it leaks a bit because it's designed to go back into the intake. If you are looking to open vent the BOV, it is really just easier to get an aftermarket one. I've seen more than one turbo wrecked by people incorrectly venting their stock BOV with a check valve.
(Let me tell you about back pressure and backwards installed one way valves

Y'know the true prupose of a blow-off valve is not the whoosh or the sound at all..........
but it sure as hell is the fun part! Seriously though, don't vent the stock one, buy the aftermarketr one with tyhe bolt-on kit for the rx7, then vemt all you want, the type-s is not really a whoosh, more of a whistle which sounds sweet

On a lighter note, get the HKS SSQV, I have it, and I love it. It definately has the "Swoosh" sound you're looking for.

There's a clip of my car with the HKS SSQV on it. You can find the SSQV with a kit that will bolt right onto the FC without any modifications, or you can do what I did and buy the aluminum flange separately and weld it onto the stock hotpipe:

It looks great and sounds great.

yup, the type-s has a high pitched chirp thats comparable to the HKS SSQV. those are the only 2 BOV's on the market that make that kinda sound that i am aware of.

my friend with a 94 mr2-t, has the same BOV as me (HKS SSQV) and his is really quiet, same type of pitch just not as loud... but when i got on it one time and shifted next to him at WOT, he said mine hurt his ears that it was so high pitched.
