bouncing idle
bouncing idle
my car is in a shop right now where they are trying to fix. i've been told to get my car out of the shop but i'm going to give them one more week.
the symptoms
bouncing idle on cold start and also on warm start if the weather is damp.
when downshifting and letting the rpms drop, once i finally push in the clutch and hit the brakes to full stop my rpms will drop almost to zero and it will shake and then rev up again where it will sometimes bounce again.
also in damp weather sometimes on start it will almost stall but only actually stalls rarely.
the engine is entirely stock, its a 1986 base. it only has 58,000 miles on it.
i've had the fuel regulator replaced and some of the valves cleared out of carbons. please let me know if you've had a similiar problem and got it fixed.

A very common problem in RX7's...Shop mechanic might know how to change plugs and set timing, but they usually don't know anything about rotary engines. Chances are if you set the TPS properly and then set the idle speed, the problem will go away. This has been discussed a lot on this forum so search hunting idle and you'll get a lot of stuff to read. And by the way...get your car out of the shop before they trash it totally.
This may sound stupid, but does the car have a relative fresh filter on it. If it doesn't the car fights like hell to keep itself alive. Your sure that the car has good oil in it right (redline, neo, royal purple, mobil 1). If you use the crapier synthetics (valvoline, halvoline, castrol syntec) it will build up ash in the engine. One thing that worked for me is the fuel injectors were dirty. I bought some Redline fuel system cleaner. Idled way better, and got better gas miallege. Give it a try.
