Bought an FC today, and wanted to say hello!
Hello! I have been lurking on these forums for a year and a half but didn't have an rx-7 until today (I've had 2 others...'88 turbo II and an '81 w/ and '89 n/a motor). I bought an '88 GXL today for $700. The only things wrong with it are: big dent in the driver's side front fender (going to replace the fender with a junkyard piece), driver's side window doesn't roll up without help from your hand, air pump is toast causing a big nasty exhaust leak, and the check valve is toast. It runs good until about 3000 RPMs then there is a massive power loss, most likely from the bad air pump. I am buying a used air pump from another forum member, but need to source a check valve...anybody have an extra one laying around?
The motor has good compression (105 across all 3 in both rotors) even though the car has 177,000 miles! It seems to be well maintained (it was originally owned by a rotary mechanic until a year ago, and it was still serviced by him). It has no visable leaks, new tires, new rear shocks, new brakes, new cats and exhaust, new radiator, hoses, belts, ignition, etc. I found no rust on the car except the fender where it was hit. The syncros grind just a little when shifted at higher revs but are not bad at all...the shifter bushings seem to be deteriorated though. The interior is better than most I have seen (just a little tear on the driver's seat, pass. carpet is stained funny). Its silver w/ blue interior, power everything, and it has that electronically adjustable suspension (all though they ditched it in the rear when replacing the shocks...I'll probably put some decent dampeners on eventually). Its actually in much nicer condition overall than the turbo II I had a few years ago. I just hope the power comes back when I replace the air pump.
I didn't take any pictures of it but here is the picture from her autotrader ad:
Anyways, I bought it but still have to give her the other $300 when I pick it up (probably on friday) and I am going to replace the air pump when I go to pick it up.

I really, really like that color. I found an 87 TII in Arctic Silver while on a pizza delivery. Immaculate condition and with a blown engine...
I should give the guy a call. Daddy needs another broken TII.
