Talking bought a 2000 ninja 250

Its pretty tight actually. I know its only a 250. but stock, its 0-60 5.5, 1/4 15 flat. Its green and has the 6 speed tranny. Weighs 300 pounds. Great bike for a smaller guy like me. Plenty of power for me also. Its a very acclaimed bike, Ive been reading reviews and watching vids. The handling is superb on it. I was watching vids of ninja 250's racing honda and yamaha 600 cc bikes and while they would get creamed on the straights, the 250's would pass the 600's on the twisty parts of the track due to their light weight and easier to handle.

Its kinda like an rx7, small engine, light weight and its more the whole package. Handling, good looks, pretty good speed.

I dont care about doing 0-60 in 3 seconds and a 9 second 1/4 mile. I think Im going to like the lighter just as good if not better handling bike.

I have a '99, black & purple, definalty has it's own little go to it, haven't had much luck getting the front end to lift up easily, but it will do it. That's one of my many proud machines! Definatly a good bike I say, handles amazingly well (I guess his is due to it's weight) and it's quite easy to work on. Though that damn Nuetral finder crap sort of screws me over when I don't down shift it when I stop (whoops), never seems to ever correct unless I roll foward and downshift, so I get stuck in one gear and if I shift up/down it goes to nuetral, ugh! Sucks when it's in 5th or something!

Man 250's KICK ***. I bought it because it was cheap and i needed a ride. I was an Airman Basic at the time and didn't make a whole lot of money. Alot of the guys i rode with loved the fact that it was ssooooo light. The downside is that eventually you'll crave more power. I got a yoshimura full pipe. and the K&N stage III jet kit with the filters. The lowend really sucks but the mid and the top end is HANDS down sooo much better. gas mileage stays about the same.

Oh yeah my mechanic says that you should always downshift as you're decelerating to stay in the power band, in case you need to get yourself out of trouble.

although it's a small bike, and my RX7 is quicker.....by far. It's awesome on the gas, and it still let me ride, after 11,000 miles. it's a 94'

A 250, man you better get a real bike. I ride with girl that wouldn't be seen on anything less than a 750. We had to lift this guys bike up so that he could do a brake stall. Get rid of that **** and get a six double-0!!!

Hey, a 250 is a good bike to start with. You go buying an R6 or a CBR600 as your first bike and you'll probably end up in the hospital.

Wink

i boughgt a 93 ninja 500 over the winter . it was between that and a 250 , but i was leaning towards the 500 being a 200# man . i've read a lot of good things about both of these bikes . the engines on these things are supposed to be tanks , they are light and they can handle ..and best of all they are cheap . i got mine with 2800 miles with a spare running parts bike for $1000 . only thing i have to do is get the upper fairing and a windsheild . i cant wait to start ridin . i hope you enjoy your 250 as much as im goin to enjoy my 5 . later

I've been looking to get a bike for a lil while now.. My friend's dad is selling some ooooooold '68 honda, and could probably cut me a deal on it.. I've never ridden a bike, so I want something that's reasonable to start out with.. Of course, i think i'd rather be seen on a ninja than that honda....heh

How much did you get it for?

If you're interested in getting a bike, go here right now

http://www.msf-usa.org/

The rider course is a good idea, I took it, and I'm glad I did. If you pass, you get your motorcycle license, and you also get a discount on your bike insurance.

Talking yeah

My car is completely done except for a front bumper cover. the one they sent was in shitty shape. Dave didn't like it. So we sent it back and found a better one down in portland, Im driving down there tommorrow to pick it up. I quess I can take a few pictures of it without the front bumper cover on. Its looks really really sweet.

If I get the cover tommorrow, I should finally be able to drive it home on thursday....

Sorry to say, but that is a girls bike. The 250 suspension will have to be modified to hang with 600's. You put that bike on a track and it will get creamed. I raced against RG's, TZ's. TZR's, RS's against my Gixxer...yes the first lap it is VERY close due to the weight and handling characteristics....but, once on the straight...later. A 250 CANNOT keep up from there.

Sorry again, that bike is very gay.

You guys need to be quiet on this topic... I really want a bike myself... just I'm afraid of the "other drivers"... I ALMOST bought a nice new ZX-6R about 2 years ago.. but was talked out of it by my friend in the hospital... (2000 R1 nearly killed him)

I bought my first bike last year and did not even consider 250's because...

The bike leaves you very little room to grow into, in less than a month you'll probably fully exploit all the bikes power and now your so bored you gotta go through the major hassle of selling the thing and finding a bigger bike.

Why not buy a 500 or better yet a 600 and take your time learning the bike since it will provide you with a bike you can actually grow into and get a lot more enjoyment out of (think of the wheelies you can do).

I've had my 600 a year and there's still tons of room to improve as a rider as well as mod the bike to get more power (full exhaust, sprockets, etc).

Don't listen to the guy tellin' you you'll end up in a hospital on a 600 as a first bike (I've been told this a million times and its complete crap!). You've just gotta take you time and develop your skills gradually and not ride over your head until you develop confidence on the bike.

End of rant.

I've got to disagree with that. Sport bikes are NOT for beginners!! I've seen WAY too many of them get balled up (along with their riders) because a new rider just doesn't have the skills to cope with their performance level. All it takes is a little slip, a little too much throttle or a too-quick direction change, and suddenly the newby is WAY over his/her head. The little 250 is alright for that. It may be a little on the quick-handling side, but the power output is at least low enough that you have to make an effort to go too fast. My suggestion for a first-time rider is a 450-650 cruiser or standard. the powerbands tend to be wider, the seats lower, cg lower, handling more forgiving, and they're less likely to be pressured by testosterone-poisoned A**HOLES into riding too fast for their skills.
Also, don't listen to this crap about your bike being . Maybe they're hiding something from themselves. Those machines aren't likely to win many races in stock trim, but they're easy to ride as hard as you wanna ride 'em, don't need much maintenance, and they don't cost too much so it's not as big a deal if you drop one in a parking lot.

Talking hmmm

i forgot, im going to grow out of it in 2months....

I didnt realize that all you people have become bike riding experts in two months. I've got vids of a really good racer at the track in his 250 against honda , yamaha 600cc bikes. Yes , on the straights , he got his assed kicked, but he passed them halfway into the twisties every lap.

Its all how you ride and how good you are and I gaurentee that you will not be a good rider riding for 2 months...thats bullshit....Even 2 years or so doesnt even qualitfy you to reach any bike to its fullest potential.

Power might be an issue but the ninja with some type of exhaust (muzzy) a stage 3 jet kit and open air filters produced 8 more horsepower and ran 0-60 in 4 seconds flat and he the 1/4 in the 13's....

Another thing, price is an issue and it gets 60-75 miles to gallon....

I dunno, I dont really care what people think, I personally think its b.s when people dog on it... Im just going to have fun and its a really good price.

if you want to learn how to ride hard and strong you need to start with a small bike! ask any pro. racing is mostly driver skill not bike power. same as in auto -x. get the small bike and don't upgrade untill you wear all the padding off your knees from draging them around corners. once you can do that and the bike gets boring you can get a bigger one.

Yo,

If I was going to get a sportbike, I'd get a Ninja 250. I don't give a sh*t about what other people say about it, if you read the reviews of real riders, they say it's a sweetheart of a bike.

The reason I'd get it would be: I don't trust myself on anything bigger. We're all speed freaks here, if I got a bigger bike I'd be doing wheelies and stoppies and generally donating my organs in about 2 weeks. I'll take the 250 and take it nice and slow.

I'm actually considering getting a Kawasaki KLR650 Dualsport bike for my first bike, because I'm not going to try and handle/go fast on it. I just need to commute, and hit some fireroads....

That's my 2 bits.
