Ive been looking to upgrade my fuel pump and pump up the boost on my jspec s5. From what Ive reseached the bosch pump seems to have the best reliabilty and is decently priced compared to the walbro 255. However searching on Amazon and Summit Racing it says its an external pump, some sites it says its an OE replacement. Can someone provide some information as to upgrading the fuel pump? Can this a simple replacement?

Before anybody jumps to any conclusions. Im running a Haltech ECU. So I didnt just slap on a MBC and turn it all the way up. Right now im running at 9psi and at 5000ish RPM it starts to lean out on me. Im also considering upgrading my injectors too but I dont think its necessary quite yet.

I appreciate any input on the matter.

 

They can be run in tank. Great choice on pump, you certainly wont run out of fuel, a bosch will get you enough fuel for 500hp range.

044's are not direct drop-in. They require modification to fit as an intank pump(fuel sock, feed fitting, rewiring, mounting mod). Im running one as an external primary pump. Good reliable pumps, never heard of one failing. You should also look into investing in a Kenne Bell boost-a-pump.

 

I use a supra tt pump there is the Denso and the kyosan version I have the kyosan works like a champ 1600cc injectors 90% duty cycle

 

defintely simpler to rig pumps that also have proven reliability

I run a 044 but only because of the E85, otherwise I would have kept my supra pump

It looks like the fuel sock and the fittings are different? How do I go about changing those what sizes are they and where can I get them for cheap.

 

also keep in mind, with a higher flow fuel pump, your tune with change as you are now injecting more fuel.

 

The fittings are from summit check valve from jays racing forget where the sock came from not cheap

the bosch 044 is a MONSTER of a pump is what he means. go with aybe a supra pump or a walbro 255

 

if you have under 450-500hp on pump gas in mind there are far simpler pumps with less plumbing issues you can use.
if you may go E85 to 350hp or 500+ pump gas then yes the bosch is a great choice

 

I do plan on bumping up to 500hp in the future. I have read mixed reviews on the Walbro and I dont want my motor blowing because it went out unexpectedly. I cant find any info on the supra pump.

As far as plumbing goes if I only have to do it once it really wont matter. As far as I can tell I just need larger fittings.

 

I think what he is trying to say is that the other pumps are bolt on (and cheaper), were the bosch 044 is not. You will need to figure out how to mount it, plumb it, and set it so that it doesnt sit too low or high in the gas tank.

 

I can appreciate you wanting to do things once, but in the grand scheme of things planning 500hp build the pump is the least of your problems.
You will have to replumb the entire fuel system,
A $100-120 drop in pump is peanuts at $4 a gallon fuel in car budget and later you can sell your pump to recoup some costs.

 

another choice is the aeromotive stealth 340, good enough for 500hp on pump.

 

can the aeromotive stealth 340 fit with out any mods? or do you need additional fixtures etc? im after 450hp so this sounds like the correct choice for me

I am still not sure why folks mount the Bosch 044 pump in-tank. It is an external in-line pump. They offer a universal HP in-tank pump, the Bosch 040. Maybe folks just don't know it is out there? The price is about the same for either pump.
