Border front bumper

Ok to just buy the front bumper? S5 from corksport, or does anyone else have different way of spending $1100?

just buy the corksport why spend $1100 when you could spend $400. The good looks of the border kit arent worth $700 more

Corksports is a replica of the border and only costs $399. Why buy anything else?

because the border is urtaune and not fiberglass. the replica will break sooner or later and you'll spend more money fixing and getting it repainted.. why not spend the extra bucks for a quality? make sense? ..

Are any of these bumpers, or body kits for that matter, proven to reduce the cars Drag Coefficient?

$700 is alot of money. You could buy the corksport one 3 times for the price of the border!

So, by your standards basically any body part that is fiberglass = cheap? Ok...

Project84...you've made me proud. None of the mass market facsia's have been proven to drop or increase the cars Cd. BUT that doesn't mean that they don't, it all depends on the design of the piece. I haven't studied the design just yet, but I'll take a look at it (ask anyone here and they'll tell you I'm obsessed with aerodynamics so I won't steer you wrong ) again closely. I've thought about it, but I might just go with the add on aero kit from '86 because I KNOW it works, not to mention it looks great!

Okay here's the first obeservation that I have on the Border/Corksport Replica bumper. Besides the fact that I've always thought it was gorgeous (TypeII), it has a mixed aero advantage.

1. It will create more downforce (thus increase drag) in the front because of the sides of the bumper flaring out farther than the center, and it looks slightly angled also. But anyway it will channel the air into the center of the bumper which is a good thing.

2. The opening in the front looks to be larger than the stock bumper which yes helps cooling (and looks cool ), but is bad for aero numbers. Large openings aren't a good thing for drag numbers (but remember that doesn't mean it will neccessarily slow the car down).

3. The sides of the bumper are also flared in an upward direction which will give more downforce (and drag, but this is "good drag" as above). They direct the air away from the front which lowers the Cd, but the angle will gain it back because of the downforce.

4. Okay this is a good thing (like I said the others aren't bad, but you DID ask if it will drop the Cd), the top of the bumper and the lower bumper section seem to flow MUCH more smoothly if you look at the differences between the stock bumper(s). That is a GREAT thing because it also directs the car and doesn't really have a length penalty (it's doesn't look any longer than the stock part) because of increased area the air travels over (which is great for Cd...BUT very bad for drag because that will take away downforce, which in turn is why I love intergrated hood vents!).

Okay I'm done for now, if you want to know more and why I said what I said feel free to ask away...I'm waiting.

By the way...I think the bumper is a GREAT BUY, and looking at it again from more angles makes me think about buying one again .

SO you gather this info just buy looking at it? i hope you got some better investigative numbers then that! Any monkey with some intuition into Aerodynamics, can spew out of their mouth some ramble on flow. Hell my school has a wind tunnel, and before we put anything in it, we discuss it first. But most of the time small subtleties won't show up unless it's tested with precise measuring equip. No one here is competing in formula one..............So what's the big deal. It's not as if it were some Super-Mega-rice wing. Tell me something i don't know.

Did I say I would post some exact numbers...NO I don't have the bumper so I did my best to help him from what I know. If I had a bumper then I would've done some more for him, but I'm just giving the general thoughts on a bumper I SAW and didn't touch or test. C'mon now he knows I'm not gonna give him some exact numbers, and if you look at my post again it says

"Okay here's the first OBSERVATION that I have on the Border/Corksport Replica bumper"

Nothing in concrete just something to think about.

We're just assuming! but it's safe to say that it's an improvement over the stock design. I wouldn't even bring drag into this as it's minimal, unless you're competing in landspeed event.

my main reasons for buying it would be that it has larger openings and retains the stock body lines pretty good.
