AL bootleg alternator wiring - need help

Alright, so ive been working on my 7 alot recently dealing with some wiring and electrical issues and yesterday i ran across a single wire from my alternator. its 1 length of wire thats connected where the plug should go (like i said, bootleg... i got it that way...) on the side and the other end i noticed it isnt connected to anything. i think it may have been attached to the wires (the clamp that goes on my positive terminal falls about whenever you take it off) that go to the positive terminal on my battery but im not 100% sure. anyone have any ideas of if it should go with the wires to the positive terminal or what? any input would be helpful.

There are two wires that plug into the back of the alt. One is the reference voltage wire that the regulator uses to determine when it needs to turn on to charge, and the other is the trigger lead that is use to report that the alt is not working.

Without knowing what pin, or what year or what model, it would be next to impossible to say what the wire you found was, other than it is one of those two wires I mentioned above.

I put the S6 alt into my s4 and I just ran that new wire from the S terminal straight to the battery. Any problems with that?

i think you were suposed to go thru the EGI fuse. I'm sure it will work but right now if anything happens you dont have a fuse which could cause an electrical fire. if you are going to leave it like that at least put a fuse on it so you are covered on that end.

hey make sure your alternator is S4, sounds like an upgrade, you can tell by the plug, take a pic of the plug on the alt and post on here and you will get an answer but the s4 plug looks like this if you look at the ends " l -- " and the s5 and s6 will be like this " l l " if they are like the later than that one wire would hook up to your battery, preferably with a fuse or just splice into wire coming out of EGI fuse - should be the wire towards center of car on the fuse box

its and 88 turbo II. its not the 2 wires that plug into the back side of it, its where the plug should go on the side. its connected to the bottom connector on the socket.
do you mean the really thick wire... if so that wire should be attached to the MAIN 80 AMP fuse in the breaker box behind battery
