Boost PSI?

I have recently bought an '88 turbo II form an auction, the car has 130,00 miles and is in pretty good shape. I have only had a chance to drive the car on the street one time and it didnt seem like it was boosting all that good, well atleast from 1,000 to 4,000 RPM. My question is what is the max boost for a stock 88 Turbo II? and is the boost mostly really high RPM's, like above 5k, or is there something wrong with my car? I talked ot the previous owner and he claimed the car had no problems. Oh yea one other question, why does the boost gauge read up to 40 PSI? Ive never heard of such a thing! Thanks for any feedback!

it's not PSI it's somthing else.

you won't get full boost till probably atleast 3000rpm. which is 5.5 psi. what that is on the stock gauge I can't remember. probably 3/4s up.

Stock boost is measured in mmHG, or millimeters of Mercury.

This is actually an outdated measure, which has been replaced with the term "Torr"
