boost problem!!!

Ok i was trying to put a manual boost controller in and no matter what setting i put, the boost would remain the same (stock boost). So i decided to take off the hose to the wastegate and run full boost, but the boost would just go up to 8 and thats it. What can be causing my problem?

Removing the wastegate hose is a very risky thing to do, but if you only get 8psi with it removed then you have serious issues somewhere. Either the turbo's completely stuffed or there's a huge blockage in the intake or exhaust. What kind of condition are the cats and air filter in?

There's nothing wrong with manual boost controllers if they're installed and set up correctly. They're ridiculously simple things that only cause problems if you don't know what you're doing.

all the cats are gutted. The filter is a year old but still pretty good.

Yes, exhaust gases leaking out before the turbine won't be able to drive it, so boost will be lower. It would need to be a huge crack to drop an unwastegated turbo to 8psi though, plus it would be very loud.
