Boost Guage Gone Crazy
I have just passed 1500 miles on my rebuild with streetport. I have the following mods:
Engine was streeported by BDC
Rtek 1.7
Denso 720cc secondaries
New stock 89-91 OEM turbo
Wastegate ported by BNR
RB complete TII exhaust
Greddy V-Spec FMIC
Greddy RS BOV
My boost is spking at 20psi while I am in 5th gear. I was driving 70 MPH (3000 rpm) when I floored the gas and I watched as my boost guage went to 20psi.
I thought I was going to pop the motor. In gears 1-4 I don't go over 15psi.
This is my TII swap and I really don't anything about turbos.
What do I need to do to make this safe?
Thanx
Michael

Do you have a boost controller of any sort? I dont think it's a boost spike since a spike jumps up high and then drops back down. It's most likely creep. If the wg was already ported by BNR then I would suspect that your wg isnt functioning correctly (example: the actuator rod is not being allowed to travel freely).

I do not have a EBC yet. I have been looking at the Breddy Profec B, but have run short on $ until after the Rotary Revolution. How can check the wastegate for proper function.
Will this thing POP????
Thanx

I couldnt tell you or not if it would pop but it doesnt sound safe at all. I guess you could get a hand pump and put it to the wg actuator line and pump it with air to see how much pressure it takes to open the wg. I would also double check the accuracy of the gauge with another one if possible.
