It will not boost any higher than about 5.5 psi with NO boost controller because the stock wastegate spring is about 5.5PSI... when the boost hits 5.5 psi the wastegate will open and thats as high as it will go......

The reason boost automatically goes higher when people put open exhausts on their cars is because they also have STOCK wastegates..... the stock wastegate can't let enough exhaust past it to control the boost to the stock level and the turbine wheel keeps getting more and more exhaust pressure on it even AFTER the wastegate opens..... YOU HAVE A PORTED WASTEGATE......, THUS, it is more efficient, and will let enough exhaust gas past it when it opens to keep the boost to about 5.5 psi. Since you have a ported wastegate.. .... THIS IS A GOOD THING.. BTW.

A boost controller cannot limit boost, only increase it..... it works by not allowing the amount of boost actually being put out by the turbo to hit the wastegate actuator.... for example... I run 15PSI on the high boost setting.... what is going on is that the boost controller solenoid is SHUT until the sensor see's 15PSI, then, it opens and allows boost to go to the wastegate actuator and open it...

NOW... as to why your EBC isn't working..... When you say it boost high with the EBC powered off, that tells me that the solenoid in the EBC isn't opening and therefore is NOT allowing boost to get to the wastegate and thus the wastegate ISNT OPENING when the boost controller is off!!! Thus, your boost is going HIGHER....

The Fact that you are not seeing boost with the EBC on is telling me that something isn't right with the EBC....

Did you check the settings on the DIP switches on the back of the EBC???? If they are set wrong, the thing is going to open at the wrong time or allow to much air through too soon and screw everything up........

It needs to be set to the INTERNAL wastegate setting.

and put a GODDAM restrictor pill in the line to the wastegate

What happens if you disconnect the line from the wastegate. Do you get more then 5.5 Psi?

yod you are the man!!!!!!! like I've said before my knowledge of how a turbo works is pretty slim to none and you have shown me the light My ebc is kinda fucked up so I'm guessing its that because I can't switch inbetween high and low boost because of something wrong with the electronics in it. I'm going to buy an elcheapo mbc for now to see if this helps out the situation if it does I'll owe you big time! It would make total sense that my boost wouldn't go higher than 5psi right now because of the enlarged wastegate! Again you are the man! Thanks
