bogging/detonation ????????????

Ok I recently put my apexi gt spec exhaust and downpipe on. Of coarse I got boost creep. I pulled the turbo off and ported the wastegate. still had boost creep so I pulled it off again. still boost creep. I obviously didnt port the WG enough. So untill I can find something bigger to replace the flapper on the WG I decided to go ahead and get a FCD. feels similar to fuel cut but i dont think thats the issue.Well I put that on last night. But now it seems as though the car hesitates or boggs around 7-9psi sometimes it doesnt at all. Any ideaas what it could be? Detonation? running way too rich? running way too lean??? plugs bad? I did a search for "detonation",FCD,Bogging, Hesitation, Fuel cut and a few others. so I did do a search. Thanks for the help

It also seems to smell like fuel a little more than it did prior to putting in fcd. So could that be the issue of too much fuel? thanks again

Have a muffler shop weld on a washer to the flapper after you port it to a proper size. That's what I did way back before I got my welder and it cost me less than $50. It might have only been like $15. I don't recommend using a FCD. It's a hack of a 'fix' because then the ECU doesn't know how much fuel to add according to boost past whatever psi the FCD clamps the voltage down to (which I think is usually around 8 or 9 psi, whatever is just below where fuel is supposed to cut). If you want to run that much boost you really should be using a wideband and a fuel controller at a minimum so you can add fuel up there.

As for hesitations... I'm not sure, but one thing to check is make sure there's the stock vacuum line restrictor pill between the manifold and the MAP sensor. The pill keeps pulsing minimized so the MAP sensor can read smoothly and accurately. If you're bouncing around the boost limit without a restrictor pill smoothing it out, your sensor's readings can make the ECU go 'CUT FUEL! DUMP FUEL! CUT FUEL! DUMP FUEL!' leaving you going 'WTF?!' and possibly doing your engine harm.

The heat will 'eat away' everything. Get a good solid steel washer, at least 3/32" thick to 1/8". It should last quite a while. I did mine 10k-15k miles ago and I haven't had any issues with it. They welded it on there good and solid, probably using a MIG wire feed.

For cheap fuel management a lot of people get an Apexi SAFC, there are various models new and old. I used to have an SAFC-II but wanted more options and got an rTek, which I upgraded to the 2.1 unit I now have. I'm using a Zeitronix wideband controller and I should be receiving my upgrade for that tomorrow. I haven't driven my '7 in like 3 weeks so I'm excited about that.

Also, pay attention to things like throttle position, RPM, and whatever else when this hesitation happens. Among other things your TPS could be fuxxored or simply need adjustment.

You need to get that wastegate ported big enough to control your boost. Then later when you get the proper fuel upgrades you can turn up the boost.

Let me say right now that you need some serious steel to hold up to the temps of the rotary. Here's the thread with pics of when my flapper disintegrated.

Damn, I stand corrected. I'll have to look at mine when I pull the turbo to replace the gasket. Like I said I haven't had any problems, maybe the shop I had do it used a special washer...

Pulled my turbo and the flapper is gone. The original flapper still covered about 90% of the hole though so it still did some good. I'll be looking for exhaust valves, too.

It may work but you wont be able to get deep inside the passages, Similar to the the one i used but i dont have a die grinder and had to use a drill which made it even harder to get the burr as far i wanted, made the job a lot harder than it should have been!

Get one with a longer shank!

Luckly I have a die grinder. Hopefully I can get one with a long enough shank to grind it out so that I can finally get this thing ported properly
