A body kit delima, widebody, details inside.....

Ok, well, here's the scoop.

I'll be purchasing a 89 GTU sometime this late summer. I have fallen in love with the RX-7 over the past few weeks, I feel it is the best car for the money, with power combined with looks. Not to mention I wanted a RWD car.

I'm not usually not a big fan of all out body kits such as the veilside kits for supras and eclipses. I think its too ricerish. When I get this car, I'm not going to consider myself a ricer, or should I? I'm not 100% clear on the definitive definiton for ricer, I've always thought it was a teen with a honda, with those gay sticers, big coffee can exaust, and neon ****, maybe some nice tires and rims. ANYWAYS, going back to the body kits, I planned on something simple and not too 'busy'. No big angles and huge air scoops all over the place. Maybe some side skirts, front spoiler, kinda basic, and a small wing. Almost resembling a 3000GT wing.

Well, I was browsin google for aftermarket parts, and Mariah Motor Sports came up. I checkem out, and 2 of these body kits caught my eyes, and first my eyes popped clear out of my socket, then my jaw dropped to the floor, started drooling uncontrolably and then I about busted a load right there in the computer chair. I dont know what it was about that kit, but it just looked phat as hell. I HAD to get it, but I couldnt decide which one. Well, that's not the delima part. Since the car I'm planning on purchasing will most likely be N/A (for the purposes of me learning the rotary, and I want the durability) I didnt think I was gonna have the power to match the red hot looks of this kit. With the 15"+ wide rear wheels, widebody. So, as many of you are sitting hear wondering when I will shut the hell up and get to the point, here it is

The delima: Does having this kit, and not having a lot of power either:
A) - Make me a ricer B) - Make me a laughing stock among the ricers and/or other rotorites
C) - A & B D) - Dosent mean jack ****.

I dont plan on adding any engine mods, other than what is already done (Details about the car) and maybe some other stuff, but that would be for another year or year 1/2.

Ok, now Im not sure if all these are the same, but I like em all so that may be why. They are the Mode Six Wide Body Kits from Mariah Motor Sports. I think it might look gay for the sake that I wont have an intercooler on it. I dunna know, tell me what you think. Im not a big fan of the wing though (the big one). I like the wing on the above green picture, but maybe a little bigger (height).

Like I said, there might be some differences, i dont know, but the two diff colors look different.

I LOVE THOSE HUGE TIRES!!!!!

More pics can be viewed here

Does anyone have this kit and could post some pics, It might turn out to be a mix and match type thing.... just trying to get some ideas.

Is it just me or does these kits kinda make it a cross of an older ferrari and lambo mixture?

man.. i was seriously looking into purchasing a rx-7 also.. and someday i will get an rx-7 (just not as my first car) and i defiently want the Mariah body kit. but have you seen the price? the price for that kit is just as much as the price of the car.. If i had a car like that i'd defintely want the power to back it up.. you say you can't afford a TII but you can afford a $4000 body kit?!

if you can afford the kit you can afford a TII.. i'd go with the TII and then when you get the power. start upgrading the looks.. you don't have to do it ALL right when you buy the car.

Heh, well, actually it fits perfect into my budget, around 8k with me doing the work.

Its not that I cant afford a TII exactly, just cant afford to keep it up I need the logetivity and reliability of a N/A. I want to ride this puppy out as long as i can til i can get a turbo swap.

I think those cars look badass, the reason you dont see them to often is cause they're quite expensive. And three piece wheels to fit also cost an arm and a leg.
If you could afford it go for it. Turn some heads for sure.

Wider is Better!!!!!!!

Here are some links to affordable three piece wheels.

I ordered these 17x8 $300/each 17x11 $325/each

Good luck

to each his own...

Dude, take the 8k buy a friggin TII, get that thing up to snuff and you shouldn't have any problems with it. Bodywise I think this Mariah stuff would be better on a NA. And any way for $1300 more you could get the ultimate 2nd gen body kit. The GTOII race body.

And I have seen this car in person (its at Pineapple Racing) and it looks friggin awsome.

Have you seen it in person? Cuz personally in the pics it looks like crap, but when its on the car right in front of you it looks pretty good.

Yeh I live in the same town as MMS (there also my tuner), Those cars are all ******* sexy in person. The pictures just dont do them justice. If you have to get a wide body kit. Get the MMS kit. Sorry i love it. I gives the already great looking RX-7 FC a nice exotic flair.

So I guess it boils down to either you hate it or love it.

I might do the TII thing, but I don't see it happening anytime fast... I'll be most likely be buying the GTU on the 1st page.

well the fact is that i HATE "body kits" for cars that are generally slower than my old lawn mower...civic anyone...
Even an N/a RX-7 is quick and can be made very fast. I would not buy that kit now since I am still not FAST I am just fast. lol but I do like it but I would opt for the smaller wing not the huge one unless I had a 20B in the Sport

Well, I have learned alot so far I guess.....

Anyone have some good sites for n00bs that are 'recommended upgrades' to suspension, and engine for, heh, just what my username states, poor.

I dont know how much suspension helps overall speed, but I do plan on doing some AutoX at virginia international whenever I can, and there are some pretty good local tracks. Now I dont care about being the fastest, I just want to race to get that urge out of me so I dont **** up and race on the streets. I know what Im saying will probably do a complete 180, but I really dont plan on making a super street machine.

As far as engine upgrades, what is my best bet for the money? ECU software/hardware upgrade, I dont know what else other than exaust, which is already done.

OK, while I got you here... another question if you dont mind.

I have worked on piston engines and can comftorably take apart/reassemble them. I have access to an engine hoist and a lift. I know that the rotary has less moving parts, but how easy/difficult is it to take apart and reassemble.

The link for the car is on page 1 for any mods. And engine, if anyone can help me...

Thanks for all the great opinions and help,
Jonathan

Well it says you have a magna flo exhaust???? does this mean just mufflers? if so then you are in no way done with your exhaust.

The engine is easy to pull apart but I would not unless I plan to rebuild it.

Not my car, this is the car im planning on buying...
He said he put in a bonez high flo cat 'system' too...

Im trying to get him on AIM so I can ask for a full list of mods, although there isnt much. Just trying to give ya'll hints on what is already done to either enhance those mods, or what to add on to make more power.

If possible, can this N/A run with Mustang GTs with less than 3k put into it? (in particular a 94 5.0 GT, I want to smack my friend down like a little crack ***** with an import :P )

lol I can hang just fine with newer cobras with only 5k in the car including the car so yes. I can probably beat the 94 GT I have run with one just it was cut short because of the huge curve in the road.
