BNR Stage 1 or just get HKS To4e? Need to shut some people up.....

I have a S5 TII, and there has been talks that the Rx7s here in Fresno are getting whooped. This is all talk, because I know most if not all of the rx-7 turbo guys. One of my buddies is gonna be running a GT40 and standalone on a 13bre motor, but he isnt done with the rebuild yet and would still need to break in the motor. So I wanna go ahead and prove these guys wrong. I find that the stock turbo is insufficient for the job. I know the HKS To4e is good enough for the job, but I dont really want to spend that much money on it and its supporting mods just yet. I also would like to avoid the strict cops here in fresno, so a stock looking turbo would be good. I have deep interests in the BNR Stage 1 Turbo. I hear it can push 290-310 at 15psi or lower. I want to know what power #s you guys who are running the bnr stage 1 turbo got. Also what times have you guys ran with them at the track. I am looking to get at least high 12s without slicks and hope for low 12s. I 'd like to be close to 300hp. What is the max and safest boost for the stage 1 turbo? Well, the pfc f-con with graphic controller, 720cc secondaries, and walbro fuel pump be good enough for fuel? if anyone has a used bnr stage 1 let me know.

why does the T4 have to be an HKS product? that automatically means its going to be way overpriced.
i got a 400 dollar borgwarner t04b vtrim and made 360whp

400 bucks for the turbo
200 bucks for the HKS log manifold (yeah, its HKS but its cheap and cast and i like it)
200 bucks for the wastegate
100 bucks i had to extend my RB downpipe and get vband flanges/clamp

i'm not exactly sure what you mean by "supporting mods," but you're going to need more fuel and a better intercooler at anywhere over 230-240whp...

edit: i just noticed you're on the stock ECU with piggyback stuff. just get a freakin hybrid and a rtek7 ECU and some injectors. if it were me, i'd just get a haltech as the first mod, as you can run 12's on the stock turbo with some more fuel.

I like fast spoolin. From what I heard and read and seen, the HKS turbo is what I want. I am not a big drag racing fan, but I do want my TII faster and would like at least 300hp. Well, I can't get Rtek because I have a s5. so you are telling me I can hit 12s with stock turbo? Cool. Well, my question is, how come you only hit mid 12's with 360hp? I know the stock turbo can get around 250hp only safely, right? Well, I most likely will go for the stage 1 hybrid then, with 720cc for secondaries and just get a hks gcc for the fcon to adjust fuel some more. The FMIC is a must and is not even a question. I really just want to know about the bnr stage 1's capabilities, specs, and limits. BTW, I would love a standalone, but it would be too much money all at once. I still need to get a 3" full exhaust which is gonna be more than 2K in total, so I wont have no money left for a standalone.

Look into the megasquirt - Tofuball makes plug and play ones and has a group buy going on right now.

Keep in mind that once you start going above stock boost and fuel levels that fuel control IS a must (you obviously know that) but the more control the better, and safer. the 450 he's asking in the group buy will be zilch compared to cost of a rebuild if you don't have the tuning capability to run the car properly with the added airflow.

Just something to consider.

Can you get away with a header dump in Fresno?
My stock turbo & TMIC get real happy when I open the 3.5" exhaust valve.

i like that exhaust dump. hey you could hit high 12s with open exhaust and some good tuning on that stock turbo but your pushing it. get that front mount and be safe.

Yea, I heard, but I want to get around 300hp. I dont want to max out the stock turbo either. The FMIC is a must and I am not even overlooking that.

Yea, I know about fuel being important. I know what precautions I have to take. I am gonna get bigger secondaries as well as wideband to check my A/F Ratio. I'll probably get the old version of HKS GCC. I don't think I really need standalone yet. But my real question is info on BNR Stage 1 Turbo. I wanna know if its worth it or not. I've read about the turbo on the BNR website, but I wanna know from people who have used it on there cars and what performance numbers did they get out of it.

seach in the timeslips and dyno numbers section to see what people got with thier hybrid turbos. with my stage IV I'm at about 350 but I'm having some issues with blow by etc..so I'm not making the power I want. I will be re rebuilding my engine with s5 n/a rotors and 3mm apex seals as well as some other goodies so I should hit 400whp with that setup.

what cars are you racing because these days when racing turbo modded cars vs a second gen turbo you are going to need twice the boost and three times the money. Drag racing should not be your first choice. You might want to see if they will go from a roll (which is gay) but I don't see you shutting anyone up with a bnr stage 1 anything.

midly-moderate modded honda swapped cars, evos, sti's, vr4s, nsx, s2000, mustangs, camaros. basically anything that is modified but not fully blown or anything close to that. If I can get 300hp i think i should be good enough for a while. I dont plan to be the fastest in the 1/4 mile, but i want to be fast enough at least here in fresno. a 11-12 sec car here in fresno is pretty quick. If I can get at least high 12s, i should be good and low 12s is my goal and would be even better. I am more into handling though, I want to get into autox and drifting, but drag would be fun once in a while. im not planning to take on the top dogg, but i wanna shut some ricers up. I will also be going up against a 300hp 89-91 supra turbo. I know I got the weight advantage, but I want to gurantee my victory. I want to at least give these cars a good run for their money.

you don't need fast spool for drag racing... why waste the money?

as for slow spooling hybrids or other turbos, hell my stage 2 hybrid begins to go into positive boost at 2K RPMs, it partially depends on what intercooler you use.

anything not-stock is going to suck *** for autox. You get outclassed /real/ fast when you start messing with the things that are easy to add horsepower.

The recipe for a fast TII is pretty easy.

Got a fresh motor?
EMS is the first thing to do, it's the foundation for making more power.
Then (and this really is easiest if you just buy it all in one chunk.
you need to upgrade your Fuel system (720 primaries, 1600 secondaries) FMIC, Turbo (big), Exhaust, intake setup (goes with the turbo), etc.

Well, I just want to take out those evo and sti ricers mainly. most likely they are mildly modded. But I am not gonna be drag racing all the time, like I said, I'm more into drifting and autox so I need a fast spool up I will be using the HKS FMIC, because its carb legal, and hks kicks ***.

That list is a lot of money to spend. I dont mind, and I know its the ultimate setup but I cant get that money all at once. Plus, I just gave my 89 TII shell to my buddy, so when he gets it running, I will be giving him most of the stuff I have now, when I upgrade. So I dont mind running this setup now. Well, I was hoping to stay in at least the street prepared class at most. and I will try to stay in stock first. I need to get a cat. I was also thinking that I can get away with the BNR Stage 1 Turbo. Do you think they will notice when they inspect it? It does look exactly the same as the stock turbo. SCCA is bringing autox to Fresno, CA on May 23-24th, so I want to attend it here. And then go to buttonwillow, since I heard good things about that place.

The Microtech ECU will make just as much power as any other ECU

The mesurement of an ECUs ability is not peak power.

Even a well-tuned carburator will produce the same peak power as an EMS.

If he told you something like that, he's just trying to sell you a Microtech LT8S.

yeah i wasnt saying he should buy a microtech its up to him what ecu he gets. i dont know how much microtechs cost in the U.S but its the cheapest stand alone ecu i can find and was designed for rotarys (the guy didnt tell me that he just said a price and possible gains) 1400 aussie dollars supplied and fitted isnt a bad way to get 60 hp at the wheels

1400 the cheapest...you MUST be new...

Look into the R-tek for starters, and Tofuball on the forum makes plug and play megasquirts for s4 n/a s5 n/a s4 tii, and s5 tii........I think he was asking $450 in a group buy....

Well, have you timed it? Have you raced anyone? I am leaning towards it, and most likely gonna get it by sometime this summer. After, I am gonna get a HKS Downpipe, Custom 3" Test Pipe, Mazdaspeed Catback, FMIC, 720cc for the secondaries, and HKS GCC. Also a Electronic Boost Controller. I am hoping to get 300hp after having it tuned. If I get close like 290hp, I will be happy enough and find some way to squeeze out some hp to make 300hp. I want to boost 15 psi at the most. I wanna kill me a EVO and STI, since there so cocky. But its mainly the evo guys here in fresno, fucken fast and the furious dickriders.
