there you have it: stock IC is useless. It's a restriction and a heat sink. Seems a straight pipe w/ AI is a better approach. And at speeds, the low pressure area by the IC's inlet (think air flowing over a plane's wing) will draw underhood hot air vice what you think it's doing (well, that's my theory anyways ). On the other hand, the WRX's IC inlet is huge and sits nice and high to intersect that air stream.

The tmic works but its performance range is limited

limited, yes. while its temp stays under ambient air while the motor heats up.
