blue headlights

I am looking for a cheap alternative to HID's that still have a blue tint to it. Anyone have any ideas, I searched.

H4 conversion housings with H4 6000k-10000k bulbs.

Should cost you total around $50 on ebay.

The Sylvania Silverstars are nice. They're not really blue but a very bright white which from what I understand is better. Got them in my wife's Camry and on one of my headlights. My other one is a Sylvania Cool Blue which was out a couple years before the Silverstar. Also not really blue but a bright white, but not as pure or bright as the silverstar.

I got mine for my birthday. they came from eBay, and I'm pretty sure I can find the auction if you like them. They're more white than blue, but they have a pretty color, with just a slight tint to 'em.

[aw, ****, I don't have my pics of 'em on this computer, apparently. as soon as I get back to school, I'll post 'em. ]

Those damned silverstars burn out after just a few months, and they are more white than blue anyway.

Really? Mine haven't been in either car for a year yet. Maybe six to 9 months. So we'll see how they last. I'm gonna be pissed if they don't even make it a year as much as they cost. Your right though they aren't really blue at all.

My silverstars have lasted quite a while, but I won't be buying them again. The light output is slightly better than stock, but the "white" light is achieved from a blue film over the lens. The US spec silverstars are generally considered to be pretty bad. The european ones, however, are said to be quite good. For a headlight replacement like this, Phillips is supposed to make good oem replacements with good quality and better light output.

You'll need to convert from a sealed beam to a housing that accepts a standard bulb....then you can get some cheap *** "xenon" bulbs or some thing dumb like that on ebay.

I had them awhile ago...just a halogen bulb with a blue covering. I called them "ricebulbs". They were pretty blue (13k or something) and they looked alright but you couldn't see **** with them at night! I finally did it right and got HID's.

Do you realize that what you are proposing is highly illegal in most of not all of the USA?
Most jurisdictions will slap a BIG fine on your for "impersonating a police officer" cause you're running a BLUE light on your car.
Down here, they will jump on your *** REALLY fast, and it's like a $200+ fine!

First off, heed the advice of those that have posted before me. Second, read up on lighting. Go to the Daniel Stern lighting site and educate yourself on those blue lights or the blue wavelength you desire.

Finally, that junk on ebay is plastic. At least for the housings. Buy either the Hella or Cibie glass housings..put a lens protector over them if you're worried about stone chips. Buy the Euro spec versions. Not strictly DOT legal, since they don't diffuse the light, but give you a sharp cut off. No one will bother you if you AIM them properly...see my reference to Daniel Stern above. He tells you how to do it properly. I've run these lights in a variety of cars for over 30 years.

if you don't believe me, go over to Miata.net...type in a search for Hella or Cibie and you'll have quite a lot of reading from experiences to bulb types. It will also give you vendors who sell this stuff. Cibie.com comes to mind and Susquehanna Motorsports or Rallylights I believe.

As to bulbs, buy a good set of 55/60W Hella, PIAA or Sylvania Silverstars or go with plain Osram bulbs. The Silverstars even give you a bluish cast if you're married to that. They do burn out faster though as has been posted.

Finally, do your own research. Don't fall for a bunch of advice that is meaningless in terms of the facts and your budget. HID is nice, but expensive and if done incorrectly, nothing but an invitation for attention from LEO's.

I'll have to agree with Ted here, colored headlights is serious rice. It was **** me off to no end to see nothing but blue in front of me. I saw a Sentra SE-R the other other day with pinkish-purple, no **** pinkish ******* purple, headlights. On that note the Silverstar bulbs are a fantastic upgrade but you need a good, yes GOOD, quality housing to get it's full potential. eBay housings are crap and will give poor output. Hella, Raybrig, etc will have good quality housings to use. I got a set of housings from Black Dragon Automotive and so far I'm impressed. The quality of the housings are good and output from my Silverstars are alot better than stock
