hello, everyone. I have a 1987 rx7 n/a. recently I just slapped a turbo on it and ran it as hard as I could until the motor blew. The reason I did that is because I already owned a 1984 GSL-SE w/ a 13B RE-EGI engine. however, my sister recently stole it to go to a party and crashed it. So, I want to take the motor out of the gsl-se, with only 65K original miles, I know because my brother owned it before I did and he gave it to me a year ago when I turned 17, and put it into the 87. Has anyone done this before??? How difficult is it??? I was looking at the two engines and the only differences seemed to be the distributer: 87-internal & 84 external, the throttle body, the bypass air control valve, and the emission control clips. Is there anything else I should be aware of before I continue along in the project and is it really true that the re-egi engine in the 84 has more stock hp than the regular one in the 87? thanx, any help would be deeply appreciated.

There are a lot of small differences, the biggest of which would be the motor mounts. You could not mount the older engine into the newer car...take a look, there is nowhere on the older block for your newer motor mounts. It'd have to be custom.
The older engine in stock form makes 135hp, your newer engine in stock form made 146hp. The older engine had 2 fuel injectors, the newer had 4. The older one had 11.5lb rotors, the newer one had 10.5's. The older engine has smaller exhaust and intake ports. And a much smaller throttlebody and intake manifold (I routinely swap the newer intakes on the old SE motors and see a large power gain over stock).
Bottom line, put the right motor back into your car and be done with it. This isn't worthwhile.

oh, yes I know that inside of the gsl-se the motor mounts are in the front and in the newer ones they are in the sides. however, there are holes for the mounts already built into the block and it sat right inside and bolted into my car perfectly. it even fit my transmission. also, i am aware that the throttle body and intake manifold is smaller; i already planned on swapping them... i have been measuring and it seems like a direct fit.

I didn't think that the SE int. iron has the holes tapped for the pasenger motor mount. Never checked, though. Still, you're going to an inferior motor...
