Cold Air Intake Revival....

Since checkpoint is out of business (has been for about 6 months), i thought id ask if anyone would be interested in me bringing back the intake at a much lower cost....

Everything would be basically the same as before. Powdercoated pipe, silicone hose clamps, brackets, real K&N filter and the adapter for the 86-88 cars.

I have the master shape and all the info i need. Im looking around for cheaper vendors for this. The only thing i would change is to add a install manual with pictures to the package. Here was the old prices

250 for 89-91 cars, 275 for the 86-88 cars...

Here is what i think i can do it for realistically....

180 for 89-91 cars, 210 for the 86-88 cars..

Let me know what you think and ill see about getting these things going again...

Mine was priced at 175-195. I have only had two guys that would put up the money since I began. Its a bad product idea when all the people on here are dead beats and the ones who are not don't care.

greg, I thought about you as soon as I saw this post, b/c of our talks about the cold air box.

to answer the question: if I was literally rolling in cash I would buy a prefab CAI for $180 and be happy as a pig in @%#$. I am a big fan of kits, prefab, drop-in solutions but unfortunately I land in the cheap DIY category. maybe next year = )

i duno if its even deadbeats and poor fc people, i think its just plain easier to do it yourself. there are a few ways to do it and it only takes a few very cheap pieces to make. i bet if you tried to sell them on ebay you would have some luck, but here most people that are interested know how easy it is to do themselves. im not arguing quality, if i had the money i would buy one b/c i dont trust my own creations when it comes to these cars.

Why do you call people deadbeats? it doesnt cost a lot to make a CAI

I haven't seen anyone do it in 304 SS for what I was pricing it. What you all make are usually aluminized which is what I started out making but then I switched to stainles steel and quality silicone couplers.

And in my actual experience the people that wanted the CAI's would come in and show interest then say they ran out of cash or could not really afford it right now. That is being a dead beat in my book. I was trying to provide a pre-fabbed package for those that are not do it yourselfers like you or me. Yes there are people that do not want to make them themselves. Just like I didn't make my own exhaust people might, just maybe, not want to make a CAI themselves.

And what everyone forgets the stock box is really a CAI, just looks shitty and does not flow as well as a cone.

Santiago came up with a nice product, I believe most of the owners are cheap *** is more accurate than deadbeats. Just my $0.02 worth.

may I suggest asking for refundable deposits - refundable if you dont make them, not refundable for buyers remorse otherwise you will never know the real interest.

could you plz show some pics of the intake?

what would the price be like for people who already have good aftermarket air filters (apexi) and dont need the K&N?
or does yoour product use the flat oem style K&N filter?

I made mine for about 50 bucks, mandrel bent aluminum piping, high temp/high pressure resistant silicone couplers, 2 adapters (dont ask) and already had the filter.

The intake to buy and cut for the project on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634
You'll just need to cut it into 2 sections for the project, even comes with a shitty filter if you want to use it, or you can opt for a better one for more expense.

The problem with this is that you have to cut a hole in the fender for your intake, plus the loss of the windshield washer. I think Santiago's design did not require this.

No it did not sir. The only modification the design I made needed was a small amount of trimming which I used a dremmel for. A hack saw would do for this aswell. Nothing was lost that was part of the safety equipment. And yes I call washer fluid a safety device if you live in an area where it rains and gets really muddy.

Santiago

PS- Try driving without washer fluid after a rain storm behind a car with a nice little rooster tail of muddy water.

The way I did it, which was different then the how-to, made it so it was in a different location and the windshield washer fluid would be able to be kept if so desired.

I live right be Seattle Washington, you know, the place that never stops raining? Believe me, windshields around here get plenty dirty in the rainy season especially when you take it on the freeway. I took mine out even though I didn't have to, and I've dealt with it and not cared. I clean it as it gets dirty when I get back home, no biggie. Also, I was behind a garbage truck that was spraying trash debris, dirt, and other nasty **** on a rainy day and was fine.

I find what is posted above hard to beleive. With about 30 seconds of rooster tail I couldn't see **** and the wipers would just spread the crap around. My GTU doesn't have washer fluid because the guy that had it before me removed it. That was a big mistake. I had to pull over and throw some water on it. I don't think many people want to be stopping every time they get sprayed like that.

Santiago

PS- the post I made was after the rain when there isn't anymore water comming down. the **** dries and you can't do a damn thing to clean it without water.

That may be, I'm just giving my experience. The time I was behind the dump truck/garbage truck thing The wipers didn't do **** either, just spread it around. In my experience when it gets that dirty anyways washer fluid doesn't help much, you have to actually scrub it off.

Anyways, I don't really want to get in a pointless argument about this, I was just saying that some people can live without the washer fluid. Plus, the place mine ended up left it so that the washer fluid bottle could be left in if you wanted.

Notice to the right of the intake in that pic is a hole with wires and junk coming through it, that's where the washer fluid bottle used to go. With the way mine is set up you have plenty of space to keep it there. Just my .02, good luck to everyone in whatever they decide.

Just relocate the washer bottle. You can put it in a number of places - including the space under the driver's side headlight, as I did.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...5&pagenumber=1

If it is pouring rain, having washers isn't much of a problem. You want them when it has rained, and the roads are wet, or it is just drizzling.

Or cut the hole for the intake to go through AWAY from the washer fluid bottle like where I did. Problem solved.

I think it was worth it, some might not, it's really up to you. It's not really that expensive so it's worth a shot.
